(Your+name+(optional)): you must be ugly. at least on the inside.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Your+name+(optional)): Sadly I agree, not in the same sense though. Everyone should be able to find that in themselves without being told.

Genuine beauty in girls is rewarded, not fucking given.

I like to think that anyone can be at least okay-looking if they are good people. Mean people are ugly, good people are can be good looking.

What if she grows up to be very pretty or even average looking? Then she will probably always have a low self-esteem and think she's ugly because people always told her so.

I personally believe that honesty is the best policy. Low self-esteem is a personal issue. It is nobody's fault but yours if you aren't ok with who you are, and modern culture's tendency to avoid being critical compounds the problem. Since you never know if someone is being honest when they compliment you, you tend to disregard them, but you always know someone means it when they insult you. Essentially, the only things you take to heart are the insults. (had to write an extensive paper on this for psych, it was really interesting learning about it)

I do like your point, but I still don't think little girls should be told that they are ugly. If a litte girl constantly/brutally gets bullied about how she looks, they would have to be a really strong little girl to not have a low self-esteem. I'm not saying every little ugly girl is getting bullied that harshly, but I'm just giving an example. I'm not sure if you agree or not by but your comment it seems that you disagree with this post and saying that people take all insults to heart only strengths my point.

what I'm saying is I don't believe people should ever lie to children about the child. If they are constantly told by adults they are pretty, they will realize they only say that to make them feel good, not because it's true. Then they disregard the adult's compliments, because they can't tell if they are sincere or not. Then, their classmates tell them they are ugly, some maybe say they are pretty, and they realize their classmates are honest in their evaluations, since they aren't just giving positive feedback. This means that, while ignoring any complements from adults at this point, sincere or not, they are taking significantly more of what their peers say, which tends to be much more negative because kids are kids. This, not a LACK of being told they are pretty by adults, leads to low self-esteem. also just realizing that adults may just be saying it to make them feel better can make them think there is something they should be feeling bad about that the adult is trying to counteract.

True, but most little boys get offended if you say that they're cute or pretty.

I disagree with lying. How about, 'nobody should be told that they're ugly?'
