My mom's british. once you live with one of 'em for your entire life, the accents aren't that great and it gets annoying when everyones like "OMG BRITISH ACCENTS ELLO GOVERNA PIP PIP CHEERIEO I'M SO FUCKING COOL WITH MY AWESOME ACCENT!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed with you mate. British accents aren't all that great if you live in England, because they all speak exactly the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly. its particularly annoying when they say "pip pip cheerio, 'ello govna, etc" because NEVER in my life have i actually heard my mom/grandma/grandpa/uncles/aunts/cousins/anyone else say it... EVER.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. I've never said 'ello govna or any of that shit. I speak like a normal person..Some people have got the COMPLETELY wrong idea about Englishmen.

The British accent post on this site are like the coloring book posts on MLIA: not funny and overused.

Agreed.

A friend of mine goes to a school that has a class similar to that. They pick a dialect and take the semester to study and learn to speak in it.

In Britain, you can tell what part of a city someone is from by hearing their accent, if you know the city. I know what you mean though :P

Same in America too. lol. You can't just speak in a 'British accent', because there's so many different variations. But I kinda get what you mean, I guess. Like a dialect/accent class hahaha

probably in an acting class

That's what choral/voice is for

British doesn't mean English. There are four different countries in Britain, each with totally different accents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Americans assume British is either posh or cockney... but to be fair I don't know any American accents/dialects.

They are called "elocution lessons" and many people have them. They teach you to speak with "received pronunciation"

You mean an English accent; in Britain there's England, Scotland and Wales. Sorry, it just annoys me the way everyone says British accent when they mean an English accent.

OMG! Me too! So much!

I can do one, but, like, since I'm from the South it's kind of tinged with ghetto. I learned mine from Jane Austen and Harry Potter movies, so I'm not sure how accurate it is, BUT, when I record myself it sounds pretty authentic, minus the ghetto part. :D

I'd flunk out.
