+632 It's completely retarded that teenagers under the age of 18, that have a job, have to pay taxes to a government that they can't vote for, amirite?

You're not right, doesn't make any sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they don't pay taxes

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they do . money is taken out of your check . duhh !

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they're working, they pay taxes. Which, now that I think about it, is not right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know what's worse? The fact that you'd use the word retarded like that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow can i get the ten seconds of my life back i just wasted reading your retaded comment ?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry, but I find that word kind of offensive. I do agree with your post though.

Shouldn't that go under the whole "No taxation without representation" idea? I mean, seriously.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The problem is the government needs/wants that tax money because it makes a huge percentage of it's revenue, but can't change the voting age to something like 16 because a large amount of the population would hate it- "SIXTEEN YEAR OLDS VOTING?! *gasp* Next thing you know, the marijuana party will be in power and we'll be funding research into acne medication and playgrounds!" Which is a shame, because from what I've seen, sixteen to 18 year olds tend to be the least apathetic people in Canada... Perhaps if we lowered the voting age, we'd actually get a clear majority in Parliament.

I don't think the OP is saying people under 18 should be allowed to vote, just that they shouldn't be taxed.

thanks pal .

Minors have taxes taken out of their checks, but their income is declared on their parents' returns because they are dependents. If the government cuts the taxes for minors then minors would be forced to file their own tax returns, which most wouldn't do. Those that did file their own tax returns would be decreasing the tax revenue for the government and the government would have to get that revenue back by taxing their parents anyways. Another source of "taxation without representation" would be immigrants. They are not citizens and can't vote, but taxes are taken out of their income as well. Do you suggest that we stop taxing immigrants working in America?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i suggest they become citizens and pay taxes like other citizens of this country do . then they're taxed, and can vote . not such a hard idea .

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Many immigrants are here with work visas and no intention to stay. Becoming a citizen of the United States is difficult process that takes years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well if they're going to come here on a work visa, than they should understand they're going to be taxed, and if their not a citizen than obviously they can't vote. If I'm responsible enough to get a job, than I should be trusted to atleast decide who is going to have power over my town, state, ect.
