+356 School is an extremely inaccurate way to tell how smart you are and shouldn't be use to judge other peoples' intelligence, amirite?

What kind of cookie is an epic cookie?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

idk. what?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

lol It's not a joke, Jade. The Op's username is Epic Cookie and I'm wondering what an epic cookie is made of.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

LMAO. I didn't even see that. fail.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Damn. Now I really want to come up with an awesome punchline for that joke.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

To answer that question, I think an epic cookie would be a cookie that's.....idk XD But, if I had to make an on-a-spot answer, I's say an epic cookie is a cookie made by ninjas, unicorns would try to steal it, and Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee would fight over it, and in the end, a chicken eats it. Then Chuck Norris eats that chicken. But, I must thank you for noticing my username, lol ><

by Anonymous 14 years ago

And, to answer your real question that I really didn't look at, idk who made it, but maybe Dumbledore made it. Sorry I didn't answer it the first.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(): Uhm...no offense, but that sounds like something from MLIA.

I know I'm smart..I mean, I could understand anything I want if I just try hard enough but I feel like a freaking retard when I get a bad grade on a test =/

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Yeah, me too. And I hate when it seems like I'm the only kid in class who doesn't get a concept. I know there are other kids that don't get it and just aren't saying anything but I have to keep asking questions until I understand it even though I sound like a dumbass.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It really sucks when you think you did good on a test and end up getting a bad grade...hurts my self-esteem D: I think I've given up sometimes in the past because of this... but oh well ._.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I hate that. Some subjects are just harder to comprehend than others. I usually try to hang out with the kids that are getting A's in the class so I can study with them.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

And if you make a new friend that's just icing on the cake :)

How is school extremely inaccurate at determining intelligence?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I disagree, however, I can see how an argument COULD be made that the intelligent individual cares not about the things of this world because he knows the triviality of it all therefore does not see meaning in succeeding for others standards. On balance though, I'd assume op has a different definition of intelligence and therefore op would in fact be incorrect.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(Chauncy Pickles): @1177696 (SlimShady): I'm not stupid, but I (along with most kids at my school) am failing chemistry. Our teacher is an impossible grader and sucks at teaching.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But that's one teacher, we're talking the education system as a whole

by Anonymous 12 years ago

its really easy to get straight a's, the retarded kid in my french 3 class had a better grade than me. getting good grades just means you have the drive to do it, getting good grades in school is just you memorizing the information. while you couldnt say the kid whos getting good grades is stupid, you cant say the kid getting bad grades is dumb

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Uh yeah, maybe in easy classes or up until junior or senior year. Try taking the hardest classes your school offers (If they offer AP and such) and then tell me that same thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ok maybe its not easy to get straight a's. my point is, the people who have them cant say they are smarter than the kids who gets bs and cs. oh yeah and about the ap thing, i thought we were talking about the education system as a whoeol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My point is, if you're getting A's in the toughest classes, you're going to be one of the smartest kids in the school. If you're getting B's or C's in average classes, you're going to be in the middle of the pack. If you're struggling to pass, you're not one of the brightest. How does that not judge someone's intelligence accurately? And yes, if someone consistently gets A's and someone else always gets B's and C's, then I have little doubt the first person is the smarter person because 4 out of 5 times (at least), that's the case

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you successfuly just told them everything they disagree with with your reasining being everything they disagree with. if they kid with an a is smarter, why does the retarded kid have a better grade than them in their french 3 class?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's probably that he isn't trying. And really, if you're not trying and get bad grades, I don't care how "smart" you are, that's just dumb.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no argument there, school is important and you should try. but not trying doesnt make the person dumb. you just proved my point, kids who get good grades in school are trying to get them, that doesnt mean theyre smarter because they memorized the information given to them

by Anonymous 12 years ago

First of all, a lot of kids can get all A's without even trying, just because you get good grades doesn't mean you're a try-hard. Second of all, if you're not trying and you're not getting good grades, then I do think that makes you dumb. Sure, you may be somewhat intelligent but if you were actually smart, you would realize you're just screwing yourself over. If a person can't realize that, then they're just not very smart.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://dictionary.reference.com...e/intelligencei dont see anything about only memorization or the will power to try in there. this sums it up nicely http://www.amirite.net/556617

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ok so that link didnt work here http://www.answers.com/topic/intelligence see first one: a.The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge. having knowlegde isnt the same as applying it. also: if not trying in school makes you dumb, i guess albert einstein was dumb and so am i even though my iq is 137 not to to high im not a genius (speaking of iqs, the average cannot be 100, theres no way) i failed school miserably im just not the kind of person who can sit there and memorize facts all day but im not a jobless bum i pull in quit a bit a year from owning a restaurant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's obviously a freakin' long argument hich would never fit in 1000 characters, but the thing is that the education system is completely wrong. My friend and I had a 4 hour long talk about this just the other day.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*Sigh* Take a look at this video if you disagree http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_changing_education_paradigms.html

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Interesting video and I do agree with some things, but I don't know how much that applies to this post. I think by the time you're a senior, teachers and schools can pretty accurately pinpoint your capabilities and future successes. Of course the system could be run more efficiently, but why do you say it doesn't judge intelligence effectively?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i really liked that video and i agree with it a lot.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I mean, if you have bad grades, you either don't try your hardest or you aren't bright enough in that subject. I know some people that try really hard and just don't seem to grasp ideas as well as other people. I know that people like to hear that we are all equal in every way (including intelligence) but that's just not true

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you think it's inaccurate, what would be an accurate way of measuring your intelligence?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

iq test? not 100% accurate, but much better than saying because someone memorized the information that makes them smart

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is true in some ways, but not completely. If a student has a good work ethic and good study habits and is actually focused on being successful, he or she is more likely to get better grades. Someone who slacks off and does not want to learn will most likely have worse grades. In this case, better grades represent a stronger student, and generally, students who apply themselves tend to learn more and have a higher capacity for knowledge. So, in many cases, the way a student performs in school does reflect his/her ability to learn and retain knowledge.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think the assembly line, mass production style of school is detrimental to bringing out the real, genuine intelligence of its students, though it does teach them basic skills and get them to know and/or understand things for a short period time. This video is very informative on this subject, I reccomend it for anyone who wants another point of view on public education. Food for thought. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you're not trying in school, maybe you're smart but you're making an extremely stupid decision.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

of course it's going to be a little inaccurate. The school system was created by people, and people are definitely not perfect. How could we create a system that's 100 accurate and perfect if we are flawed?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Anyone can get good grades, it's all memorization. There's this one kid who's been in all of my honors classes this year and I'm pretty sure he's one of the dumbest people I've ever met. His face is on permanent blank stare, but he gets straight A's. Honestly, school has nothing to do with someone's intelligence at all. And once you get out into the real world, it won't matter whether you got 100's on everything, or how many AP classes you got into if you aren't actually smart. Oh, and Einstein failed math, just sayin'.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think everyone here is missing the point of school: school isn't meant to determine someone's ability to learn; it's to educate us so we can succeed in the future! Some of you may argue that things like taking AP classes or getting straight A's won't help you in the "real world", and even though an employer will probably never ask you what kind of grades you're getting, when you move on to university and college, big companies in need of bright young minds will go looking for people they can rely on who will do good work, and what's a better indication of that than, say, having a 96 in the most advanced classes your school has to offer?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with this post. I never thought school was a great way to decide a person's intelligence. Not all teachers will give out the same assignments or grade the same way. In my Alaska studies class, I received an A because I did all the work, but did I actually learn anything? No. We did word searches and crossword puzzles everyday. My friend on the other hand, had a different teacher who actually did a decent job teaching the subject. She works just as hard as me but received a C.
