+211 When someone compliments something you have made, like a drawing or a sculpture or a piece of writing, you don't know how to respond. If you accept their praise, you feel like a big-headed douche. If you don't accept it, you feel like a spineless dork. amirite?

Accepting a compliment doesn't make you a big-headed douche at all.

"Yeah, I'm pretty much Art Jesus."

I think you should just say "thanks". If you don't agree with them, well then that's for you. They didn't HAVE to say anything, but they did, so just acknowledge that gratefully :)

It shouldn't even matter if you agree to be honest. Just take the compliment.

People are too proud, accepting a compliment doesn't make you look like a douche.

I just blush and thank them. What's awkward is when they go on and on and on after you thank them. In that case I agree with your post.

The hard thing isn't saying thanks, but knowing which tone to use. You don't want to sound over-eager, but you don't want to sound like their opinion doesn't matter to you.

Why do people always make posts like this? It is perfectly acceptable to say thank you or agree because then it shows you have self confidence, and the person who compliments you doesn't start feeling like you're fishing for compliments.
