The killing curse in Harry Potter "Avada Kedavra," kind of sounds like a distorted "Abra Ca Dabra", amirite?

jk rowling connected all of the spells with latin, so they actually have a meaning instead of just being random letters put together.

Abra ca dabra: to create with my words
Avada kedavra: to destroy with my words

@Nowhere_WOman Abra ca dabra: to create with my words Avada kedavra: to destroy with my words

And its cool because not only are you destroying the other persons life, but you are also destroying your soul.

Yeah really. Like Gregory Goyle sounds like gargoyle. She meant for it to be that way.:]

Abra Ca Dabra is a kind of flub of the Hebrew Avadakedavra, which meant something along the lines of "To make death" Avada Kedavra is the death spell. Connection made?

That's kinda the point

@batman2012 That's kinda the point

See,it was deathis totalis before I came along. This is slightly more creative,isn't it?

Congratulations for pointing out now what most of us figured out 10+ years ago.

Diagon Alley = diagonally
Lupin = Lupine (as in the wolf family)

I know there are more, I just can't think of them right now....

Remus was one of the twin brothers in the legend of the creation of Rome. Remus and Romulus were twins who, according to legend, were raised by wolves and then founded Rome.

There was something like that for Fred and George. Like they were brothers. One died and the other was deaf.

@Mj1996 I heard about that too, but I can't remember the whole thing.

the funny thing is, JK Rowling practically had Fred's death planned from the second she named him.

Knockturn Alley = nocturnally.

Most of the spells are like that: Lumos sounds like "illuminate", "wingardium leviosa" has "wings" and "levitate", "imperio" is like "imperial" or "imperialism", "expelliarmus" is like "expel arms (weapon)", "stupefy" is an English verb meaning "to stun", "aguamenti" makes water, "evanesco" is like "evanescent", which means quickly fading, and there are so many more.

Lumos means light, levi corpus means lift the body etc.

Bellatrix means 'female/beautiful warrior,' fitting for the only woman Death Eater.

@Rocky Narcissa?

Plus Narcissa was supposedly prettier. Bellatrix apparently looked like a crack addict.

Actually, Bellatrix was also supposed to be beautiful until she was imprisoned in Azkaban.

Really? I would assume that she would start getting ugly when she started killing and torturing, and then become crazy-looking after Azkaban.

@Rocky Narcissa?

Narcissa isn't a Death Eater, just the wife of one. Narcissa=narcissistic, caring almost only about appearances. Fair for the supposed prettiest of the Black sisters and the one married to Lucius.

It is the original of abracadabra, which means "let the thing be destroyed". Traditionally, it was thought to heal(with the "thing" being an illness), but she used it with the "thing" being the person in front of you, making it a killing curse. She says that at some point in an interview.

Dude you're my hero
