Science doesn't disprove god, it just tells us what and how he did it, amirite?
by Anonymous11 years ago
It doesn't disprove God, but it does remove the logical need for God.
by Anonymous11 years ago
How does it remove the logical need for God? The need for God doesn't center around explaining the unknown, which is generally the purpose for scientific exploration. Rather, it is focused on building a sense of love and morality throughout the world.
I don't really see your point.
by Anonymous11 years ago
You just said the purpose of there being an existence of god is to establish morality and love. You're essentially saying that god is a false pretense to get people to act morally. Considering atheists who are loving and moral, God is not necessary unless to explain the unknown which science explains. With those two together, there's no logical need for god.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Well, it's an opinion if you think God exists for explanation or morality. I think it's a bit of both, but I think in a society where everyone (including the nonreligious) understands basic morality due to laws, God has a greater influence in explaining the unknown: mainly the afterlife, the meaning of life, and how everything came to be. These are questions science doesn't have the answers to, but a supporter in science is more inclined to support empiricism, and would then feel little need to have faith.
by Anonymous11 years ago
@ spareseconds Yeah, I agree with what you're saying.
But what I was intending to say is that the basic fundamentals of Christianity are focused on the importance of loving others, treating others how you wish to be treated, etc. Although it does provide an explanation of these unknown things, that is not necessarily its main purpose.
@crazychicken
Good work on completely taking my words out of context. Maybe you should apply for a job at http://www.motherjones.com/
Maybe I should have said, "Christianity's sole purpose isn't centered around explaining the unknown....Rather, Christianity's goal is to spread a message of love and morality throughout the world."

No no no no no no no....
by Anonymous11 years ago
Then what about science compels you to believe that there is no God?
by Anonymous11 years ago
All the "mistakes" in this so-called "intelligent design".
by Anonymous11 years ago
Okay, that didn't answer my question...
Care to elaborate on these "mistakes?"
by Anonymous11 years ago
The appendix in the human body. There's is no use for it, it doesn't do anything but possibly explode. Male humans having nipples. Human embroyic tails. Look it up; there's tons of "mistakes" in "God's creation". And let's not forget... Natural disasters that kill thousands of innocent people. Diseases, cancer, birth defects. Starvation.

http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/natural_evil_theodicity.html
this basically says everything, if you want to take the time to read it.
Basically, it says how in the bible, God stated that there would be fixed laws to govern the universe. He wanted them to be fixed to allow sentient creatures to make sense of the world, as well as offer assistance in the management of creation.
Wiping out, for example, meteorites would result in a contradiction of physical laws.
Some natural disasters, although can be harmful, are essential to certain aspects of the formation of Earth. Wiping these out would create a larger negative impact than good.
Diseases are included in the article as well.
Read it, it's actually pretty cool.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Does it say anything about the "mistakes" in our design?
by Anonymous11 years ago
No?
by Anonymous11 years ago
No way'd just because you called God a he.

Women's rights for the win

Technically God has no gender because that's a biological thing, but He is ethereal. However, God would look like he is male, because Adam, a man, was a carbon copy of Him, while Eve had modifications.
Since He has no real gender, and calling him It seems disrespectful, we go with His visual gender and refer to Him as male.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Well personally I dont believe in Adam and Eve and that God but I see what you are saying. I just believe that there is a greater power outside of what we know and to call that greater power a 'he' somewhat sounds sexist. That is all.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Yeah I dont think people just popped Ito existence like that, but the bible is the only source of information in the topic.
I'd find it somewhat sexist too, if we completely disregard the Adam and Eve story. But then the only alternatives are it, which is disrespectful and she which is equally sexist, so we may as well go along with what the bible says.

I was actually thinking about this concept during dinner today
by Anonymous11 years ago
well yea if you believe in a God
by Anonymous11 years ago
No scientist in his right mind has ever claimed to "disprove" God. Scientists only explain that the universe can exist without there being a God.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Oh rly? What did science do that proved the universe can exist without a God? Since a God hasn't be proven and is scientifically impossibly to disprove, I'm super interested in how science explains the universe can exist with out God.
by Anonymous11 years ago
colebowl, there was this interesting episode of Curiosity where Stephen Hawking gave his theory about God not existing.
by Anonymous11 years ago
All I'm saying is that 3000 years ago, we needed a Creator and an Intelligent Designer to answer our questions. That's no longer the case, because evolution is fact and we're getting ever closer to the origins of the universe. With that knowledge, the universe's existence is not reliant on God.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Science has been disproving religion for the last 500 years, piece by piece. It's only a matter of time until religion runs out of pieces.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Science hasn't been disproving God, that's kind of impossible. It'd be like if I told you I don't own a one of a kind Brad Pitt collectible bobble head. Had I said I DID own one, you could prove it with the fact that the bobble head is physically there. But since I said I didn't have one, there's no way to prove that I don't own one. In the same way it would be perfectly possible to prove a God exists if he truly does exist, but you can't prove a God doesn't exist. And I'd like to point out the post is talking about God, not religion. You can be religious and not have a God and you can be a theist without being religious.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Sure, it's impossible to completely disprove the idea of a deity. But what we can do is disprove the bible and other cornerstones of religion. Just like we've disproved that the earth is 6,000 years old. That used to be a common religious belief, and we've since disproved it, showing that the more we learn about science, the more religious ideas we disprove.
by Anonymous11 years ago
But this post isn't talking about religion. It's talking about God.
by Anonymous11 years ago
And I'm saying it's not possible to disprove God, but it is possible to disprove everything surrounding Him.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Before science, humans had gods to explain things. If Science explains how and what god did (which god by the way? Zeus? Allah? Ganesh?), and the universe developed after the big bang and evolution and natural selection took care of the rest, what exactly did this god do? Did it spark the big bang? If it did, it hasnt done anything since lol so why call it a god? And if it was complex enough to spark the creation of a universe then what created it?
by Anonymous11 years ago
Science takes out the need for God to be the explanation of everything, it doesn't disprove God (or prove the universe could even exist with out a God)
by Anonymous11 years ago
Which "God" or Gods? What did they do if we have calculated how everything happened and within natural means (how everything in the universe was formed, how life evolved)? Science isnt in the business of disproving things, it's all about probablity yo. And "God", or the god of the bible, has the same chance at existing as Zeus, Odin, or Shiva. Really any religion could be right, and since there's over 6,000 everyone has the same chance as everyone else. And if this thing was just the push the universe needed and not a sentient being, then it really doesnt need to be called "God".
by Anonymous11 years ago
Also, I hope this post gets those annoying "oh my gawd, this site is run by atheists" people to shut the fuck up lol. If it was, this post would have more negs than positives. And yet they love to say "We are sooooooo persecuted here, overwhelming atheist majority is mean" *le sigh*
by Anonymous11 years ago
No it doesn't tell us what or how God does anything, all it does is explain how things happen.
by Anonymous11 years ago
*if he did it. It still doesn't prove he does or does not exist.
