+781 it must've sucked to be left handed during the time of quills and ink... amirite?

Back in that time, it was looked upon as improper to be left handed. Lefty children had their left hands tied behind their backs, so they were forced to write with their right hands.

yea i know but i was thinking as if though that rule didnt exist. i was reading something and it said that the reason that rule existed is because in paganism, the left side represented the woman which, unfortunately, was looked down upon... but i was just wondering...

...and in the Wizarding World.

It still sucks now. Ink from regular pens smudge like you wouldn't believe. And on a side note, left handed people were considered to be children of the devil and were banished or killed. So it sucked being left handed back then, but not because your parchment got covered in ink smudges

"left handed people were considered to be children of the devil and were banished or killed." and with good reason. Think about it, which famous people do we know that are left handed? I can only think of two, Sephiroth and Barack Obama, the biggest villian in videogames and the biggest villain in real life!

and a lot of famous artists...and just regular people are left handed?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, i know i was just making a joke, but if someone actually does think that being left handed makes you different in any other way they're a whole other level of stupid. It's weird to think about some of the crazy things they believed back then.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People believe a lot of crazy stuff now. I'm not going to go into details because I'd get flamed, but I think people will always be a bit crazy.

It still sucks to be left handed, when i write with a sharpie or even a pencil everything smudges

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Me too. It also suck with binders. the rings just get in the way

Leonardo da Vinci was left handed and that was part of the reason why he used mirror writing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was thinking about that earlier..

Being left handed does kinda suck. When I'm writing in my note book, the springs dig into my wrist and arm and it hurts! The springs leave deep marks. I think that's the only bad thing about being left handed. (For me)
