um, no, i'm japanese, and my grandpa is japanese too with an accent. when he speaks, he uses an "L" instead of an "R", not "R instead of an "L" so he would pronouce it just like it is.
Japanese. Not Chinese. The Chinese do use the letter l. As do the Koreans.
