+379 Religions should not prevent people from reading any sort of literature (like, for example, fantasy, which is usually the first to go), amirite?

Nothing should. It should be a personal choice whether or not you read certain things. If people say it's against their religious beliefs, then they should have that freedom. But no law should outlaw literature based on religious reasons or otherwise.

Yes, they're only allowed to read one type of Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and that is their religious texts. Zing. :P

Hmm...so what about reading the Bible or the Koran?

I'm Muslim, and my parents never told me not to read a book, and Fantasy is one of my favorite genres.

Sad. I am catholic and i love reading books and i have read the bible many times and NOT ONCE does it mention that you can't read books.

Since when can we not read fantasy? I'm a Christian and it's my favorite genre. I read fantasy books all the time.

It's not so much that *can't* as some books/genres of literature are "frowned upon". Fanstasy is one of those, because to the really uptight and pathetic types, anything that promotes magic is borderline satanic. Some branches of christianity believe you shouldn't read anything that doesn't comform to their belief system... it's a brainwashing method to keep people around by making them think everything else is dirty and sinful. Just one of the many, many reasons I think organized religion is not just bad, but actually detrimental to the progress of the human race.

Some religions even ban pokemon now because it sounds very satanic. you capture monsters and kill other monster to get stronger and learn new spells. you summon these monster using mystical orbs. You can make the transform by giving them special objects, such as a stone.
