+373 Percy Jackson the movie ruined the book. Annabeth is supposed to have blonde curly hair, in the movie she has brown straight hair. Percy is supposed to be 12 and in the movie he's 16 or something. Grover is supposed to look like a 6th grader but really be in his 20's, in the movie he's black and looks like he's in high school. amirite?

Why don't you cry about it?

Why don't you cry about it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no.... grover is supposed to look older....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah but not that much older.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He's supposed to look 14

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha yeah...but I really like the guy who played Percy Jackson. I think he shows promise. Also I think they made Annabeth a really one-dimensional bitch in the movie, when in the book she is much more complicated.

Last time I checked books do not change when a movie comes out. So how would a movie ruin a book? Did the movie suck? Maybe. Was it inferior to the book? Maybe. Did it ruin the book? Impossible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay. Yeah, the characters were all wrong. But the plot was WAY off, and you're bitching about the characters appearance?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was still a good movie on its own. It was different from the book, but if I had never read them, I would have liked it. Why does it matter so much what color hair someone has? Unless it's important to the plot (say, Legally Blonde), it doesn't matter.

This is why there isn't an Enders Game movie. Directors said they'd have to make Ender 16 and give him a love interest and the author pretty much said fuck you, he's supposed to be a young litttle sonofabitch.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The plot was so completely different, it actually didn't ruin the plot for me. In the book, they do not go across the country looking for pearl and don't party in Vegas. Persephone isn't even IN the book, and when she is (later in the series), she's nice. Plus, there was no mention of the titans and Hades was the evil one, so they can't even really have a sequel.

who cares that annabeth's hair was wrong, the brownhaired girl was must have been better then all the blonds

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those are just details. Everyone imagines what they look like and that's what they looked like to the people who made it, it's just a movie, calm down...Gosh...e.e

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It only matters that they got the basic plot right....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THANK YOU!!! if you actually enjoyed the book you were looking forward to make sure they got the details correct but they messed it up it wasnt even like the book much

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The movie was all right if you've never read the books and know nothing about Greek mythology.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

this is where a "nobody cares" button would fit in nicely.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhh does it matter? Have you seen Logan Lerman??? He's gorgeous.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No offense, but movies ARE different than books. Yes, the changes are pretty severe but you can't expect it to be EXACTLY the same. I think the movie worked out pretty well, getting all the plot into such a short amount of time. Maybe they'll develop on Annabeth's character later in the series.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or you could look at the fact that the plot is enitrely different... they even left out some main characters. Here's how its different They left out Clarisse, Kronos, Dionysus, and many other camp characters. Capture the flag is at night, and that's where they discover he's a son of Poseiden, they didn't already know. Plus, he gets attacked by a hellhound at CTF The entire plot is different. It's not about them getting the pearls, its about them getting to the Underworld before the Summer Solstice, because they think Hades has the bolt. They replaced going to the Arch with going to some Museum. They never run into Ares. THE ENTIRE SERIES IS ABOUT HIM BEFORE HIS 16th BIRTHDAY. HIS AGE MATTERS. Hated the movie, nothing like the book. IT really didn't ruin the Book, but I know what you mean.

Not to mention no Thalia tree and no great prophecy!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They have to change the book a little bit to make it into a good movie. They made all the characters older because watching the movie, who is going to believe a 12 year old travelled across the country? And would you rather have Annabeth look right but be a horrible actress, or be a good actress and look wrong? I'd rather have a good actress playing the part.

... The point of making a book into a movie is to bring the book to life, to experience it with new visuals. Obiously it doesn't have to be the same exactly, but Annabeth's hair color was actually important because it's supposed to be a sign of her heritage. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't comment, but generally I like having the plot at least close to the same. I mean the HP movies have all basically stuck to the books exactly, and they've been phenomenal. There's only been a few changes that stand out, like in the sixth movie a couple happened.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... but in the book (and the movie), Athena was brunette. So how was being blonde a sign of her heritage?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because in the book all the kids were blonde.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

umm JghRocks they part about them finding out that he was the son of Poseidon during capture the flag was correct...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They didn't even have the cabins at camp, and Riptide was a click-pen. Too many details were changed for my taste.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not to mention that Annabeth wasn't supposed to be a man... Wait, that was a girl?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

logan lerman is fucking sex. seriously, put the movie on pause and just stare at him.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read the whole series and i was somewhat disapointed in the movie and like the person said above capture the flag was at night time not in bright day light and he was attacked by a hellhound and i dont see why people aRe like "who cares if they dont exactly look like they are suppose to as long as they are hot" then what is the point in making the movie if your going to leave out important charaters. And great scenes like when clarisa dumped percys head in the toilet .( pointless fact) oh btw perceus was actually zeus son if you research.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(ZOMG!): percy said he was named after the original percy from ancient greece

by Anonymous 13 years ago

uh maybe you werent paying attention to the plot of the book...did you not notice that was completely diffderent from the movie too?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually they did fuck up the entire movie. Nothing was the same. And it DOES matter what the characters look like. It was very clear and obviously in the book and the movie did not capture that at all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

chill...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and the plot was different too. i mean, the whole point wasn't to get the pearls.
