According to my school, they're distracting and you can hide things under them, such as weapons and drugs. Because we all stare at people's hats and stash stuff on our heads when we carry around gigantic heavy sacs.
Does it really matter? I hate hearing anyone complain about having to go by a dress code for just 8 hours day. If you want to "express" yourself, do it outside of school.
Sorry, I conveyed it wrong. It was sort of saying that because we are allowed to wear hats, this post doesn't really apply to me. I am so proud of my school, and I'm extremely grateful to go to a place that fosters creativity and challenges me as well. Sorry if that was unclear.
I had my kickass Superman hat on after school as I was leaving and one of the teachers TOOK IT FROM ME because it was against "code." We had no rule about no hats in the hallways, just in classrooms.

I can :P
my schools "excuse" is so that we can tell students apart from intruders. even if we have signs on every door saying "no hats" >_>
My school lets us... we have no dress code... awk.
I don't understand why you gag at the thought of your school not having a dress code. Most people would be grateful for such a privelage.
I think they were too lazy to add the rest of awkward. Think being the key word.

Too soon, man.
You are SOOO lucky. At my school, I got in trouble twice for wearing my two favorite shorts bc they were too short. They were some of my longest
...
It'll happen in university. Same with sex, drugs and binge drinking
Well, at that point it really depends on the professor.
