+858 America's economy would be 1000x better if we didn't pay celebrities and professional athletes so darn much, amirite?

I don't think this person understands economics

No, the economy would be better if jobs weren't being outsourced

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly.

No, actually you'd just be delaying the inevitable at that point. Globalization is a completely healthy thing for an economy, it's actually necessary these days. The only people who benefit from not outsourcing are the people who work in the factories. The rest of the country would be screwed if we didn't outsource. It's economics.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not true. Outsourcing means Americans lose jobs which means they can't buy things which means more jobs are lost which continues the cycle.

So you close a Nike factory where 2,000 people work. That affects 2,000 people. You move it to Vietnam and Nike can make their shoes cheaper. More people are able to buy the shoes at cheaper prices, a lot more people than 2,000 are affected. This also helps the Vietnamese economy, and a prospering global economy is always good for America.

Wrong. America pays to see movies and pro games, so we pay back more than their salary, which they deserve because it's hard work and they've earned it. Go take a basic economics class or grow some common sense.

by paying celebrities, they can go out and hire people to make their expensive houses, hire maids, create their own line of clothes, give to charities, etc. a majority of the jobs in america are created because of wealthy people. so by taking away the money from wealthy people, you're going to get rid of jobs. and you don't want that.

that is so not how economy works...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All the people who have agreed with this clearly have no idea how economics work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm glad at least some people understand economics, clearly not Ohtheirony1818 though

i dont think this post was actually saying that if we stopped paying athletes and actors, our economy would get suddenly better. but think about it, we pay TV actors MILLIONS of dollars just for ONE episode to be filmed! that's a tad ridiculous, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i know, they're basically paid for doing things they love. dancing, singing, playing sport.
