+149 You hate when people try to whitewash their own name; your name is part of who & where you're from... OWN it damn it! amirite?

That's why i can't have my name (Hannah) in the amirite chatroom. There is (Or was) another girl named Hannah, and she gets really mad if i use my name :(

I like my name but I can understand why some people would want to change theirs... I have a cousin who's middle name was Spunk (after her father's name) before she got married.

I know a guy from South Korea who chose his name, Andy, by watching Toy Story. Best way of choosing a name. :D

well its hard to have a name called "gustav Krupp Von Bohlen und Halbach". Obviously you would want to change it so that its easier for people to remember, spell and pronounce. And also, many people from other countries who keep their original names get picked on and are prone to racism, so let's be a little less ignorant anon.

because a name shouldn't be something tacked onto you at birth because your parents liked it, It should be something that is representative of who you are as an individual

I'm Nigerian and I shortened my name because it's kinda hard to pronounce and people were making fun of it. One of the things that annoys me most is when people come up to me and ask "What's your REAL name?" and after lots of begging I finally tell them and they STILL pronounce it wrong :(
