+140 Texting was never meant to be for conversation, Everything is so impersonal now. amirite?

I hate conversing through text. I like to use it to find out something quick or to decide when we could talk/meet to see each other.

No, not everything. Like the above anon said, I texted my friend one time so we could make plans to hang out, but we still saw each other in person and had a great lunch together. Also, it can just be a way to send a quick message to someone when you know they're busy; for example, I once texted another friend of mine to tell her to break a leg because she was in a school play that was opening that night. I was out of town and sad that I was going to miss it, but at least I could let her know I was thinking of her, and I could't call because I knew she'd be in rehearsal all day. One of the nice things about texting is that an immediate response isn't necessary. Now that I reread this post though, I do have to agree that having conversations through text isn't very useful or as pleasant. I'm just not as sure about the 'impersonal' part, I suppose...what do you mean by that, OP?

Like Cocaia, especially when you're texting certain people, it's nice that you have time to decide what you're going to say and the other person can't see if you're nervous, excited, etc. I have social anxiety and I prefer talking through text because, like I said, I don't have to feel pressured to respond immediately.

It doesn't necessarily mean that texting is impersonal since it allows people to communicate with each other, especially if the other person/people are busy or vice versa. Therefore, in this respect it can act as a substitute for face-to-face conversation and helps to maintain relationships or friendships, without compromising the personal nature of talking.

It doesn't necessarily mean that it's impersonal since it's a fast way of communication with someone, especially if they are busy or vice versa, and it is not convenient time to actually meet them in person. In this respect, texting helps to maintain the friendship/relationship between people and can act as a substitute in these situations.
