+369 How the hell do they waste millions of dollars on making commercial for starving children in third world countries, but yet they have no money to feed them, amirite?

It's to bring awareness to the issue.

You would think... :/

well some would...true

Probably, but how would people who haven't been there know what's happening if it wasn't for the advertisements?

You really think they went over there just to film starving children...wow...pretty sure if they are filming about it, they are doing every thing they can to help them, so they probably have brought supplies or have a clinic set up somewhere...

Okay, first of all, this is a repeat. Secondly, those ads hardly cost millions of dollars: the costs involved would basically be for plane tickets for a few people, a decent camera, a computer, basic video editing software, and money for the TV ad slots. I can hardly imagine the cost coming to more than $100,000 dollars. Not to mention those ads are reused for years on end. Also, without those ads, people would never know that donations were needed or how to donate. This is simply how organizations/businesses operate: you have to spend money to make money. Furthermore, it's rarely as simple as just buying food to feed starving children. There's that whole thing about giving people fish vs. teaching them to fish. Charitable organizations work to provide villages/people with sustainable resources and education so that they'll be able to feed themselves in future. That kind of thing takes investment and planning. Just throwing money at the problem doesn't work. Educate yourself.

My two cents worth on this topic is that it costs WAAYYY more than 100K to run these bleeding heart videos on TV for hours on end like they do. Even a two minute product commercial costs far more than that for the air time. Also -- there are rich sections in these countries, we are just shown the slums and incidentally the children shown actually have decent clothes on and don't appear to be starving. The little mud villages are shown with high rises from the cities in the background. They need to be canvasing the people of their own countries before they appeal to the west for money. But why should their own people donate? They do well to keep their own money because they know that people who live in the western world don't know where to throw their money next and most westerners believe that sending tons of money to those people will get them a ticket into Heaven, appealing to their Christian faith. For one, I wish they'd do more to look after their own people and I WISH our own governments and people would do more to look after our own poor and needy people We have many children who go to school without breakfast. Lastly, I firmly believe that most....MOST of the money sent over there is never spent on the intentions of the donors. Like someone commented earlier, it's a BUSINESS.....and I suspect quite a profitable one.

Sadly enough, fast and big profit business is discrediting so many engaged welfare organisations and individual helpers. There is a need to raise awareness, as there is a need to fight poverty and organised crime all over the world, without forgetting the nations' own poor. It is not enough to teach people to survive if the natural resources are intoxicated or depleted, and if precious matters are wasted: http://www.cartoonistgroup.com/properties/pett/art_images/cg502da65080df6.jpg
