+262 Interesting how today's justice system is based on the same principles as the Bible, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Interesting in which way? "a fake book is what our justice system is listening to" or "We have the right principals because we listen to this book." ?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

second one

Oh okay, I'm glad I agreed then :]

No, you're confusing "interesting" and "obvious" again. They are opposites.

Our justice system is soooo not based on the Bible. The Bible has stoning and sacrifices and such. Even in the New Testimant it was customary to stone someone conficted of a crime rather than put them to trial. People back then were guilty until proven innocent. Today we are innocent until proven guilty.

It actually is based on the Bible. But not all of it. Thou shalt not steal... Theft is illegal. Thou shalt not kill... Murder is illegal. Etc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was against the law to do those things before the Bible was written.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Founders were die-hard Christians, and their laws were/are based of the Bible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The founders didn't make today's justice system. When America was founded you could hang a black man for sleeping with a white woman.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bullshit, they didn't. Does the Constitution not mean ANYTHING to you? Okay, and that's when slavery was still legal, btw. Not that I'm justifying it. You could also hang a man for stealing another man's horse.

Do you not realize that morals and laws come from basic common sense? Even before the Bible was written it was a crime to steal or murder.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you fuckin stupid? You're saying if it wasn't for a fiction book, murder and theft would be legal?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That isn't the argument. The argument is whether or not the justice system in America is based off of the Bible, which it is. And don't put words in my mouth.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Which principles precisely are you referring to? Are these principles common to many religions or only christianity?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How is it based on the Bible at ALL? Just because it says everyone deserves equal rights?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The whole US government is based on principles from Christianity. Hence "one nation under God"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Concepts of morality, ethics, and justice are universally doctored by society, so just because its in the bible, doesn't mean the entire US justice system is based off of christianity- it just means human nature and society hasn't really changed for a couple thousand of years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its only partialy based... no killing, respect others etc.. but the laws are changing and as they change the place just becomes more corrupt..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When I first read this I thought it said "juice system"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"One nation under G-d". So, yeah, the system would have laws in common with the Bible, and anyway the Bible brought morals to the world, didn't it? And since the nation is based on Christianity and the Bible, it would have the same morals and some of the same laws and stuff. It's just basic morals and ethics and stuff. I think I'm kinda redundant there, but I don't feel like editing it.

yup. eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. right. though it would make dry court case much more interesting i daresay.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, because in our society, guilt can ge transferred to an innocent party, and we stone people to death for having extramarital sex. /sarcasm/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It isn't just the Bible that supports these principles. Stealing and killing are conidered bad in most religions, not just Christianity.
