Well, the day that Christmas was placed on was during the winter solstice as a means of driving out Paganism. So, celebrating Christmas on a Pagan holiday is hypocritical. Go ahead and tell me that Christmas isn't about that, that it's about celebrating Jesus' birthday.

It was placed around the winter solstice in order to ease the transition from Paganism to Christianity. Maybe putting it slightly after was more helpful.

ha okay.. i mean people said christians stole it right? it was only 3 days difference from the winter solstice, and they could easily assume that christians stole it.. i dont care, just that jesus born on dec 25 thats all we care and we celebrate the birth of jesus.. atheists shouldnt be celebrating if they disbelieve god

Uhm, there's more than JUST that which shows how Christianity pushed out Paganism. It's documented. Also, birthday celebration originated with Paganism. I say celebrate whatever the fuck you want. If you want to get together at a time of year when everyone has days off, and give each other gifts, and spend time with family, you don't need a religion to follow to do that. Obviously that's the time of year non-religious people are gunna do stuff, because it's when they don't have to work.

Christmas for me is when my family doesn't have to work, I can give my friends and famil gifts, get my own and eat lots of sugary sweets. No one in my family is religious other then one aunt and she hates my mom for not becoming a nun. Alot of families don't even know or care that it was Jesus' birthday, they want to be with their family.

I do Christmas only because it makes me look foward to something in Winter.. Besides New Years. And for the usual selfish stuff that people want on that day.. Presents :3

Christmas is more of a commercial holiday. My friends are athiests, and they say they celebrate it like it's Halloween. Just a story.

I don't think atheists getting together with loved ones to help each other is weird/bad/hypocritical. And if it's placed around Christmas, no big deal. Just don't freak out because Christians are celebrating Christ. Or when we tell you Happy Christmas.

Christmas has become pretty commercialized. Most people who aren't hardcore Christians don't even really care about the religious part of it. It's also a federal holiday, so anyone can celecrate it. It also doesn't help that the real anniversary of Jesus' birth is about 7 1/2 months before Christmas...

And that is why this year, I'm referring to my celebration as Atheismas. It's Christmas with no religious affiliation whatsoever. Just a time for friends, family, swapping gifts, and whatnot.

It would kind of fail if I didn't, I live at home and my family is Christian, should I just lock myself in my room and ignore my family? I love my family and can celebrate being with them

Christmas is a time of giving, not necessarily jesus' birthday. And atheism seems to be the most accepting religion.
