Why are glasses that go on your face and glasses that are glass cups called the same thing, amirite?

I never know what to say for glasses. Like, multiple glasses. I need to clean my glasseses....? no. I hate that word.

Glasses as in for eyes, consist of two pieces of glass, thus "glasses". A cup made of glass is called a "glass". Two different words buddy.

Well see, in ancient times people would put glass cups over their eyes due to the fact that seeing glasses hadn't been invented yet, so instead of coming up with a new name they just went with that.

Because English is a weird language.
Why are so many words verbs and nouns at the same time? Why do "time" and "set" have so many different definitions?
*shrugs* :P
