Yeah. You can't really talk or focus on each other during the movie. I like going out to eat on the first date. Nothing special but a chance to talk one on one.

If all you do is go to a movie, then no, it's not a good date. But I actually had a really good first date at a theater once. We went on a picnic first, so we talked and had fun there. Then in the theater we met up with some other people, like a group date, but we had both already seen the movie before so we commented on the movie to each other the whole time. And afterwards we hung out at a playground for a while. So I think it's acceptable to go to a movie on a first date, as long as it's not the only thing you do, and depending on the movie and the other person too.

My first date was at the movies, but we talked a lot before that. (i also ran into a chair and he still makes fun of it today.)
