+166 I know that my pop stands for popular, but can't other music [such as country and jazz for example] be pop(ular) music, amirite?

But then what would we name pop music?

It could be that its something else and then popular music would be any sort of music. then pop music [i.e. lady gaga, katy perry, etc] we could call something else.

Actually jazz was considered pop music in the 20's, 30's, and 40's but seeing as it is no longer the most popular music it doesn't have the title pop music.

To me, pop is bland, repetitive, uncreative music that radio stations play until everybody is fucking tired of it so we move on to the next bland, repetitive, uncreative songs. I'd be lying if I said that I never listened to any pop music, and some song are actually fun to sing along to when you're drunk in a club or bar with friends. But the fact that radio stations play the same shit on loop every ten minutes keeps me from listening to it. As far as country, I consider country to be the same as pop except it's in a different tone. Both are about heartbreak or partying and getting drunk. Both are easy to censor (if any curse words are even present) and that makes them acceptable to play on the radio because God forbid we have songs with deep meaning on the radio but a few curse words keeps them from being "family friendly". Didn't mean to rant there.... :\

That's why we should all just listen to Pink Floyd.

My friend's piano teacher was around when Rachmaninov was considered pop....

Well, if it's popular then it's playing on the radio. If a lot of people like jazz and buy jazz music, then it will go high up in the charts, and then be played on the radio.
