unless you're native

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are no REAL natives. So-called "Native" Americans were the first, but their ancestors immigrated here too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

YES! Amen to that! You go soapisdope. America is the land of immigrants! Let them in and stop freaking deporting people, they only came here for oppurtunities! If you're gonna start deporting people, you might as well empty America of it's whole population. Except for the natives, like GavinRaymond said.

There's a difference between a legal immigrant and an illegal immigrant. Learn it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We should at least make it easier to become a legal immigrant so that people don't feel compelled to come illegally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We don't want overpopulation. It's harmful to our economy if we have millions of people living below the poverty level. Besides, even if it was easy to become a legal immigrant, people are still going to come in illegally because it's easier if you don't get caught.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So are you saying that they're not good enough to become citizens? Besides I'm sure they would like to become legal if they could. They already do all the same things legal immigrants do( pay taxes, pay into social security etc...) but don't get the same benefits.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm saying we don't want too many immigrants to enter America, whether the ones we do allow are from Europe, Asia or Latin America, I don't care. I'm not saying they're not good enough. What makes you think they're paying taxes anyways? It's not like they just go apply for a job at Target and show them their green card. They get paid under the table, so they don't have to pay taxes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You were implying that the illegal immigrants would come here and automatically below the poverty line. I was asking if that makes them less worthy of citizenship(regardless of their nationality)? Part of the reason they come here is for the opportunity to be better of than they were before. The majority of illegal immigrants pay taxes, that's part of how we know they're there. http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/taxes/2008-04-10-immigrantstaxes_N.htm

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Now, if you read the article you'll learn that 1.5% of the social security taxes are paid by illegal immigrants. Estimations are that roughly 4% of the total US population are illegal immigrants. And let's be honest, the average illegal immigrant is poorer than the average American. Many of them do live below the poverty line. I'm not saying they all do, but many of them do. And that has nothing to do with if they're worthy for citizenship. If you're dirt poor but go through the legal process, you should be able to enter the country and I have no problem with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't saying that they all pay taxes, but the ones that are capable usually pay taxes. Most of the ones that don't are too scared of deportation to pay taxes. Besides, of that 1.5% that goes into social security, the illegal immigrants get no benefits. They just want to be members of society, that's the basis of what I was trying to say about them coming legally if they could.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some of them do want to come here legally, that is true. However, some of them also just want to make enough money and then return back to their home country. (Tongue in cheek) And our whole generation pays social security taxes but won't see a cent of it :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn straight we don't pay federal taxes. We still pay state taxes though. Thankfully, my parents and I are legal. I would argue that illegal immigration is better for a good economy than legal immigration. During bad economic times the government tends to let more illegal immigration slip by. That's just me, though. Its what ive seen from data online and ap history books. I can't verify that to be true, because i Inferred this

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know why you say we don't pay federal taxes....? And did you ever think that governments let more illegal immigration slip by because they're not willing to put the money forth during a recession/depression? It's not the most responsible way to spend their money I think we'd all agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*We as in illegal immigrants. And yes, I have thought of that. I just chose to believe my own theory because it helps me feel better about myself. Also, the data I've seen and the information my history teacher has given me suggest that my theory is plausible

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You sound very naive about immigration and immigrants. I'm not sure this argument would be worth continuing CapedCrusader.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's why I said I was going to stop. I had a blonde moment...

(Don'tevenargue): My family is made up of immigrants too, in fact, I'm a first generation immigrant myself. I can tell you that the ease with which one can enter the country legally is often depedent on the country their immigrating from as well as their socioeconomic background in ther country of origin. For example, me and my parents were able to legally immigrate, but many other members of my family are unable to even visit because, for some reason or another, the embassy refuses to grant them visas.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My family is made up of immigrants. They came over legally, some in the last 10 years. It's not all that hard. If you want to come to a new country, it's a shitty start if you come and immediately start breaking laws by being somewhere illegally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most black people didn't...if you think about it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because my ancestors coming here and getting a green card almost straight away, then paying taxes and following other American duties, makes them totally illegal. Thanks for opening my eyes!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah! I'm asian and my grandparents came over here legally! Your reference, I'm assuming, is to people of European decent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My mom's side was Irish immigrants who came in the 1700s and my dad's side was the Pilgrams who came in the 1600s.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I say we only deport the bad illegal immigrants. If they're here working or just living here peacefully I don't see a problem with it at all...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Umm, taxes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they're working, wouldn't they be paying taxes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You realize you have to provide proof of citizenship, a green card, etc. to get a legal job, right? They're getting paid under the table, no taxes are being paid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha I need to look my stuff up. I look like a retard. Yea I'm done. Not even gonna try anymore haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All I can say to the supporting group is, "Seriously?". ...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have to agree with this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My parents came from Ireland 20 years ago, and came here legally, so "No Way"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My family came over Asia legally, why is it so damn hard for the other people to do it? My parents waited for their turn to come over, they should be able to wait too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, I'm descended from immigrants from Germany, Poland, and Italy, who all came to America legally, thank you. They all learned English, payed taxes, and were happy to be able to call themselves American.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know what's shitty? The horribly long difficult process of becoming a legal citizen. But know what's even shittier? Over a year ago I was rear ended (NOT my fault in ANY way) by an illegal person, meaning he had no insurance. I have insurance, but the accident wasn't my fault so my insurance isn't responsible for my bills. Anyways, almost half a mil in medical bullshit, plus I'm STILL injured, he's absolutely fine.... But my life is fucked. If he were legal (meaning he could have had insurance) none of this bullshit would be happening.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That happened to my aunt:( I'm so sorry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My great grandparents came over from Sweden, learned English, got their citizenship, and lived a happy life here as Americans. And they only taught their children a few Swedish words and only allowed them to speak English. They said"we are in America now, so we will be American and speak English. "

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1. Native Americans? 2. Not necesserily "illegal." Not all were illegal. Also, MY immigrant ancestors came here, learned english, got jobs, and worked hard to support their families. Today's immigrants are lazy and expect our government to pay for their problems.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You mean just regluar immigrants? 'Cause unless you're of English descent, your great-grandparents came here legally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure I descended from slaves (who were legal at the time, not 'illegal immigrants', except after they were outlawed or whatever), or some really rich African family that moved to the U.S. Probably the former. :P
