+388 I'm ashamed to be apart of this gerneration. 80's had great music : Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince. 90's still going strong : Tupac, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston. 00's Lil Wayne, Ke$ha, Drake, Justin Bieber. Music is dying, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well at least we've got eminem

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah there are a few good mainstream artists but i think its too easy to get famous all you have to do is make a sex tape

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh hai. There's a LOT more music out there than what's on the radio! :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

for real. maybe one or two or the bands i listen to are on the radio. everything else i find online

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but when people look back on this generatiion the people i named are who will represent us

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but we were already fucked anyway considereing we will be remembered as the generation that was obsessed with sparkly vampires

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um, those are just the superfamous people that can't sing of our decade, like there are in every decade. There is good music now, and there always will be. Don't judge the entire music scene based on a few people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree, Justin Bieber is NOT what defines our music today. All music in the 80s sounded tacky and the same in my opinion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sure, but there are amazing artists like Adam Lambert, Pink, and Lady Gaga out there too!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Adam Lambert? Really?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pink <3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Madonna isn't anything to get excited about in my opinion, but yeah I mostly agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you forgot about Miley Cyrus, she fits in right next to justin bieber

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, music's not dying. You just chose some kind of suckish artists to name as examples...... If you look somewhere that's not the top 40, you can actually find some really talented artists.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are some good artists out there, but we're represented by the bad ones. All of the good bands are relatively "underground", and you never hear them on the radio. In other decades, they had legitimately good bands/singers that were popular.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

mariah carey should not be included in that 'good music' thing. not evennnnnn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In the 90s she was amazing. Her voice was beautiful.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

pretty much all of the ones listed should not be counted as good music

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually like Drake .

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No one cares.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think the op is referring to the popular music only, they arent saying that there is no good music, just that there is no good popular music anymore

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Music died when the 60's and 70's passed (Led Zeppelin, Etc.)..but rebirthed in the 80s with bands like Van Halen and such and got stronger in the 90s with Nirvana And Foo fighters. then COMPLETELY died in the late 90's

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Clearly OP has no taste in music.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you are only focusing on all the mainstream music...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seriously...I love newer music...like, minimalist folksy stuff. It's great, but it's not something you'lll hear on the radio >_>

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you MUMFORD!!!! Lol email me sometime grawrocker@yahoo.com we can trade music

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mumford? What? ...Is this guy a salesman or something I don't even

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*facepalm*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well excuse me for misinterpreting that weird comment. I have never heard of Mumford before in my life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im sorry,HakunaMatata, but Lady GaGa? Really? She's trash. (I know,I'm going to get a lot of shit for that, but it's true) and as for the post itself:Mariah Carey is also trash,as are Justin Bieber and KE$HA. However,Weezy and Drake are some of the best artists out there. They actually rap about serious important issues in the world. Just listen closely to their music. And no,I'm not referring to the stuff on the radio (even though that's good too) I'm talking about their less popular that never gets any airtime because it isn't about drugs, pussy,or money. But back to the main idea:you can't give sucky examples like that when posting something like this. Why? Because music is life, and it's one of the most personal things in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Ciara!!!): Lady Gaga isn't trash. .-. She actually can sing and she writes all her own material and she can play piano beautifully (and taught herself to do so by ear.) Just because she may wear weird things doesn't make her trash. I'm pretty sure the two rappers you referred to are way trashier than Lady Gaga.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't recall saying WHY Lady GaGa was trash. So don't put words in my mouth. Moron

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Ciara!!!): That's the only possible reason anyone could see her as trash. Seems like you just wanted to find a word to insult her but couldn't back it up. Not surprising.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"That's the only possible reason anyone could see her as trash." Or maybe because she makes generic, repetitive, completely uninteresting, pop music? As far I can see fans bring up her clothes much more than critics, so if anything it's that her fans only like her because they think wearing weird clothes makes her "unique" ('cause there sure as hell isn't anything unique about her music)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't find any of her music generic. Who else sounds like her today? And it's not uninteresting, especially if you watch the music video with it. Repetitive? Yup, because ALL of her sounds sound the same! Even if that were all true (and to you, maybe it is; everyone has opinions) how does ANY of that make her 'trash?' I see just as many critics bring up the way she dresses as fans do. Not to mention, I don't see anyone becoming a fan of someone just because of what they wear. .-.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I honestly don't understand how you don't find her music repetitive and annoying to listen to, but hey there are a lot people who love techno so I guess some people just like to hear the same thing over and over.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think they all sound different, but a few years ago my favorite band was a techno band so maybe it's easier for my to pick out differences in her music. Some of her songs are soo different from the ones you hear on the radio. Like, her song Speechless is completely different from Alejandro (which I honestly didn't like that much) or Bad Romance. All of them have meaning to her, too. She doesn't write them just to write them. x3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

With repetitive I didn't actually mean that her songs sound the same (although the ones I've heard aren't much different from eachother) I meant repetitive within the song like techno is. Like this; http://xkcd.com/411/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh. xD Usually when people say repetitive while referring to music, I think that they mean all their songs sound the same (and that's usually what they mean.) Yeah, the song itself can get a little repetitive depending on which one you're listening to (especially Telephone e-e). I concentrate on her voice and her lyrics more than I do the techno part of the song. If you listen to any acoustic versions of her songs, they make it a lot better if you ask me. Speechless is a lot different and less repetitive than her other songs, so if you want a good version of GaGa without the techno crap, that's a good one to listen to. Honestly, she has a really great voice and she's very talented.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I listened to Speechless and yeah it's better than her other songs, but it's still only mediocre and not very interesting in my opinion. And about the "great voice" part; a lot of people have good or great voices, but you need more than a voice to be talented.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like the meaning behind it more than anything. It was more for her and her family than her fans. She wrote and sang it so her father would get an operation that'd keep him alive. She has a great voice but she can also play piano (and she taught herself how to play by ear, at that.) If those two things alone OR combined don't make someone talented, then I'm not really sure what does. Just wondering, what music do you listen to? :3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, my favourite genre is jazz, but unfortunately I actually don't know that much jazz music I just don't know where to go to be pointed in the right direction, if you know what I mean. But just to name some random artists that I like; Nina Simone, Gnarls Barkley, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Roots, Nujabes(kinda unknown), Gorillaz.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ahh. My boyfriend's dad is obsessed with jazz, so I get my fill of it when I'm over there. It's not bad at all. I can see why you'd think GaGa is really repetitive; the jazz I've heard isn't repetitive at all. x3 My taste in music is so weird. x_o My favorite is Metallica, but the rest of my music isn't remotely close to Metallica.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Metallica is pretty good, but guess what; I find them repetitive. XD And that's actually no joke, to me it feels like they're dragging out the songs longer than the songs can take and somewhere in the middle of the song it gets boring. But still as I said they are pretty good, my favourite song from them (that I've heard anyway) is "Sad but True".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Ciara!!!): Music isn't life... It's just noises that make you feel good inside. The right music though, is Arabic music, you should listen to some.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you say music is life, put down the earphones and take a walk outside WITHOUT your friends or cellphone and enjoy what life really is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, music is life. And I do listen to some Arabic music, thank you. And as for the taking a walk outside without friends or headphones,I do. All the time. I write songs (good ones, not BS ones that all kids think they can write). I do enjoy life, and my life just so happens to be music. So please, don't act like you know me,because you don't. You're a waste of time,as are the other two losers who commented on my comment, and you can just go choke. On an artichoke.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Ciara!!!): Man, I was just trolling. Sorry if I hurt you or anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're only pointing out the good in the 80s, the arguably good in the 90s, and the bad now. What about the bad in the 80s? The bad in the 90s? The good now? I'm sure people in the 80s thought this too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the people in those generations probably thought the same thing. years from now, im sure people like lady gaga will definitely be remembered.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you look at any period in time you can find parallels to the artists you mentioned for the 90s. People in every generation say that music is dying, 30 years ago they said that music was dying and 30 years from now they'll be saying the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Beatles 1960s!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not a fan of 80's music with the exception of a few songs. You should recognize other artists that are still going strong right now. What about Michael Bublé? I definitely hear him on the radio, and he has an amazing voice.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People who don't like new music just need to STFU. I mean, I don't really either, but I don't go around complaining so people will think I know everything about music.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

or they could express their opinion. You do realize you're on amirite.net. A site who's slogan literally tells you to express your opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At least Justin Bieber made himself famous and didn't become famous from his family like Miley Cyrus.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um excuse me? Drake?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ludo, My Chemical Romance, Mindless Self Indulgence, Panic! At The Disco, and a lot others....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, Ludo! <3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They are my absolute favorite! ^_^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know Ludo or Mindless Self Indulgence but My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco is mediocre at best. If you're gonna list talented contemporary artist, naming Gnarls Barkley should be obligatory. If you only know the song "Crazy" from them you really need to check out their other music.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Get with the times! It's now the '10s, not the 00s! =)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Drake is amazing!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if by amazing you mean only talks about money girls and having "so many haters" then yeah hes great!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is some good music now. There ARE other artists other than the stupid ones you mentioned.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but when our generation is looked back apon those people will represent us

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are a lot of people who don't like them, and there are quite a few good bands that are popular. So I don't think just those people will be the ones representing us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well we should call radio stations to get all the meaningful music on the air!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow. The only reason why OP wrote Drake and Lil Wayne as the bad, 00 ones is because he or she is an Eminem fan. And you're username is from one of the Twilight Books. Yes it is.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Was there not bad music during the '80's and '90's? And, I get what you say about those being the artists that will "represent" our generation, but music isn't dying..There is still plenty of amazing music still being produced.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Youre missing TONS of good artists from the 90s nirvana, semisonic, old green day, the offspring, sir mix a lot, and possibly weird al

by Anonymous 13 years ago

glee has some seriously good music...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, the GOOD artists from the 80's are the ones that will be remembered. The GOOD artists from the 90's are the ones that will get remembered. And the GOOD artists from this decade will be the ones that are remembered. I mean, people are already forgetting about the Jonas Brothers. Miley is getting old. Justine Bieber only has so long before his voice cracks and he fades away. So don't worry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You forgot that some artists have been around from the '90s and still make kick ass music (Weezer, Green Day) Plus Lady Gaga and Ke$ha and Co. only appeared in the last two-ish years so that is probably NOT what the world will remember in 40 years

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're really wrong when you say that b/c music is just changing, I mean for people that were young in the 1930+40's thought that 1970+80' music was going bad. It's just an ongoing cycle... so you are very wrong when you day that. I mean what is wrong with Justin Bieber? Did you hear his new song Pray? It's amazing and its got a very deep meaning and everything! And let me tell you some of the music from the 90's is just plain lame. :(
