+310 For some reason nowadays, people associate "vegetarian" with "hippie" amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have never heard anyone call a vegetarian a hippie.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Its just asspciated. WHen people say vegetarian, you think hippie, not say it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought you were trying to use a more complex were, but then I realized you just had a typo. And I don't normally associate hippie with vegetarian. I don't think anyone really thinks of hippies as much as they used to simply because hippies aren't as prominent in modern culture as they might have been forty or fifty years ago.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Neither do I. I just know why so many others do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's because only hippies or hippie-type people deny their bodies nutrients because its cruel to kill animals. Instead, they take multivits or something, which is not natural. THye campaign outside meat places like mcdonalds, but you don't see them going after bears, even though they kill less humanely than us.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Bears aren't human, so why should they behave //humanely//? You are making hippies out to be some really negative thing. un

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't mind hippies, I mind what they do and the inconvenience they cause us. If they kept to themselves, it would be fine, but they try to convert others totheir beliefs forcefully and non-optionally(referring to conversion attemps, nto actual conversion).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Seriously? Are you commenting from the sixties or something? How many hippies could there possibly be in this modern era? Besides, no one is forcing you to agree with their beliefs. If you don't agree, just leave or ignore them. Becoming a hippie isn't irreversible.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't care. Any group of hippies that try to make more hippies is one of the most annoying things.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You remind me of Cartman.

Im vegetarian and i don't rely on multivites. I consume dairy, eat soy, quinoa, and legume+grain combos to make up for nutrients. I don't just eat all healthy "hippie" type foods as my diet contains lots of pizza and junk food as well. Bears don't kill humanely cuz ya know, they're not HUMANS. When carnivorous animals eat meat they are keeping herbivorous animal populations in check. They only eat to survive. When humans eat meat we raise them with steroids, torture them, and mass murder them. We cut down forests and destroy many important ecosystems for ranching and we don't eat for survival we eat till we get fat.Even if you didn't become vegetarian but at least cut down on the amount of meat you eat, it would show that u have some respect for other animals and it would improve your health greatly. I hate hippies, and i hate PeTA.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was talking about those who don't eat ANY meat derived stuff. THere are a lot of laws against inhumane killing. I for one would rather be killed like an animal than die any other way (other than in my sleep, of course) at the end of my life. I'm just pissed that they go around and make noise about how we don't do the same things as them. Its annoying and possibly the only flaw in the freedom of speech laws.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

look im not defending hippies so i don't see your point. Im defending those of us vegetarians who aren't hippies. And i see you would like to die in your prime? Oh and it isn't painless.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The people who don't eat any meat derived stuff are vegans not vegetarians. I don't think you quite understand how animals are killed if you are under the illusion that it is humane.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not humane? Wanna know good 'ol Nebraska's process? We feed the down grass and corn while lettin them roam 24/7 in a pasture for a few years, letting them live their lives. Then my uncle (the butcher) shoots each cow twice between the eyes with a rifle. Dead in seconds. How the Hell is that not humane?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's a much different situation and far more humane to how most animals are slaughtered for meat. Most animals do not get that luxury and suffer greatly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Luxury? I don't know anywhere here in Nebraska where they're killed in a different way. I just know of butchers and lockers. I don't know where an actual "slaughterhouse" would be...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah ok I get that's like that where you live (there is a slaughterhouse in Nebraska btw), but there are many many other places that have horrible conditions for the animals that they use for meat. Like there have been several investigations to how animals are treated where I live (Australia) and some of the conditions have been so shocking and cruel (similar investigations and findings have been done in many countries including the U.S and U.K). And we have a disgusting live export trade where the animals are forced to be transported so tightly packed and standing in their own shit with other animals dying next to them without being removed, then to get to the destination where there are little to none regulations on how they are treated or killed. I'm not saying not to eat meat, or anything like that, or that all sources of meat treat the animals inhumanly, but it is incredibly nieve to think that there is no animal cruelty going on at all in the meat industry.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's just what you know. The animals killed for mass consumption are NOT killed humanely, and they usually don't get to live humanely either.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nah, I will NOT cut down on how much meat I eat. My uncle is a butcher, as is a cousin of mine. I'm a hunter. Today I just picked up from our meat locker three packages of amazing steak and six packages of deer meat. And our family will have it all gone within a week. I show respect for animals. How? Awesome aim. :P One shot to the heart/lungs and they're dead within seconds. I live in Nebraska. Corn and cows. Steak and deer jerky. It's what we live on.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That awkward moment when you're watching Carnivore Chronicles when you're reading a post about vegetarianism.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most hippies are vegetarians but not all vegetarians are hippies...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also, not all generalizations are accurate.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It kinda depends. If they say they are veg heads for health reasons, I think of them as healthy California sterotype people. If they say they are veg heads for animal rights, I link them with hippies. Though honestly, if you're a vegetarian for animal rights, there is a lot more you could do than not eat meat.
