+396 Amirite is a dictatorship, but not a bad one like Iran. It's more like Singapore in that it has a strong central government run by an average person and therefore tends to get things done more efficiently. amirite?

Haha that's true. I have relatives in Singapore. But to be technical, it's really a parliamentary republic.

I'm from Singapore! Personally I don't really like the place as it has a really, REALLY small art scene and the schools don't give much support to art students. Also, they run stupid campaigns like kindness week and stuff which people should have the initiative to do... But they don't, I guess, because that's how the campaigns come. Like "do not litter" and "it's not cool to pick your nose". Err... And in schools, they make you take a Mother Tongue, except that it's not the language your mother speaks, it's the language that your race speaks. I'm chinese, my mum's Indonesian and they refused to let me take Malay until I appealed for the 3rd time or something. But otherwise it's a really great country. It might not be the most artistic but they have a great support for culture. (Wow that was long.)

Holy wall of text. o_o Haha. Ahh so you're an artist? Well from what I hear Singapore puts more emphasis on Mathematics, so that's no fun. (And suddenly putting emphasis on proper English as well. Hmm, trying to fix Singlish?) But yes, it's not much of a dreamer's country I suppose. More of a realist place. I've visited once when I was quite young, though, and I loved how clean it was. Despite the heat, it is a great country, as you say, especially because of the rich mix of food and culture. And you should be glad they run those campaigns. It keeps the place running much more effieciently and creates more responsible citizens. Whereas in America all the kids run amok and no one gives a damn about authority. :-l

Oh, and my mom had to take a Mother Tongue as well when she was young. I believe she took Mandarin. (Hokkien dialect?) But she knows a little Malay as well, seeing as it is about a mile away from Singapore.

Yeah. The cleanliness is a major plus point there. And what's great about Singapore is that it's small and really easy to get to everywhere. Cool! Your mum's Singaporean?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes that's definitely a plus. No gum or graffiti. My relatives just walk wherever they need to go. Lucky ducks. Nothing's close by in California/America. Yupp. :p She liked it there but wanted to see what America was like. She then met my dad. ...And she never made it back. Haha X)

That's nice! :) I actually wouldn't imagine myself being able to get back to Singapore if I get out... As I said, I don't really like this place. It's so... Rigid.

I heard they execute people for drug possession in Singapore; is that true?

by Anonymous 13 years ago
