The phrase happy as a clam is quite incorrect. Clams live in complete darkness all their lives and the only time they ever see the light is when they are going to die. How can they be happy? amirite?

Why do you need to have light to be happy? Clams sleep, eat, and reproduce basically their whole lives. Sounds happy to me.

Yeah, I'm not seeing how light = happiness.

It's possible to be happy despite your conditions. Though....saying that light means happiness makes no sense. Especially for clams.
