The fingertips are lined up because the knuckles aren't and are all different lengths. When you stretch your fingers out they don't line up because the knuckles are lined up. Either the knuckles or the fingers have to be lined up for the other to be different lengths. makes sense.

ono When things of different lengths start from same point their endpoints don't match, so when you fold each in half, the top endpoint goes to the same lowest endpoint where they all DO match.
