There's a select few words that end with "-us" in which their plural is "-i" (i.e. cactus > cacti, platypus > platypi). What you did was just slapping on an apostrophe, which means a possessive, not a plural.
Yes, it's a good excuse.
And partially. Personally, I believe something was going on that made it make its decision, but do I think it's truly psychic? No.
