i actually like the screams better, but i can see why so many people agreed with you. its more difficult for someone to appreciate screaming. and if you listen to what would normally be categorized as screamo (alesana, silverstein, hawthrone heights) then it shows that a person may be comfortable with the idea of screaming, but not fully appreciative.

Yeah shrugs it's just an acquired taste, I guess. It took me a bit to really get into the screaming part of screamo music.

well, yeah its acquired, but it also really depends on the person. i started with lighter stuff, and gradually got heavier. but i know people that just jumped right into death metal. most kids my age just stick with screamo, though, and we've all had equal amount of time to develop our tastes.

I'm same as you. I started with screamo choruses, and got right into that Silverstein and All That Remains hardcore music.
Everyone's just different, and everyone needs different music to express the depth of their emotions. The little girls who listen to Justin Bieber just don't have the emotional range that the screamo-listeners do.

I happen to like metal and screamo and stuff like that.
Favorite band is Disturbed. (I know it's not screamo. Still my favorite, and I like a lot of screamo too.)
If you hate metal and rock, just leave us alone and listen to your gay rap. Kaaaaaaaay?
This wasn't meant for everyone.

The screams are the best part.

If you like the parts without screaming, why not listen to music without screaming?

Alesana and Silverstein arent really screamo bands, they are more of a post hardcore kinda thing, but I understand what your getting at. Personally, i like bands like alesana (happens to be one of my favorit) and bands like tdwp and as I lay dying.

i beg to differ. alesana and silverstein are ideal screamo bands. devil wears prada is metalcore, as i lay dying is debatably metalcore. although commonly confused for a description of all or most metal containing unclean vocals, screamo is a specific type usually with predominating cleans and elements of rock/punk with metal occasionally dipping into the song.

@Linds no, no, no, no, no. Both Alesana and Silverstein are post-hardcore bands.

post hardcore is generally just a more professional term for screamo. what you call post hardcore, i call screamo. anything that is not post hardcore, for the most part, is not screamo. you gettin it?

@imthatoneguy post hardcore is generally just a more professional term for screamo. what you call post hardcore, i call screamo...

screamo is just too generic of a term. a lot of bands scream, but its all done in different ways, with varying pitch, and different amounts of singing. What i think the op is referring to would be post-hardcore because it's one of the most popular genres, and considering all of the bands that have been mentioned (hawthorne heights, slilverstein, alesana), everyone is thinking of post-hardcore bands, not screamo

This makes me laugh because most people have no idea what screamo is. Generally all they are hearing is post hardcore.

@imthatoneguy so what would be screamo then, oh wise one?

"Modern music genres, such as post-hardcore, metalcore, powerviolence, deathcore and death metal as well as others are often incorrectly referred to as "screamo".[38] This is because many define screamo as any style of music that incorporates screamed vocals, claiming that the term "describes a thousand different genres"
This is what everyone is doing, which is not correct.
The difference between most genres is not the type or amount of screaming, its the guitars and types of rhythms used.

@Linds "Modern music genres, such as post-hardcore, metalcore, powerviolence, deathcore and death metal as well as others...

which is exactly my point, EXEPT that i would define the term "screamo" as one referring exclusively to post-hardcore and all of its sub-sub-genres. in this sense, i also stress that it does not include all music that contains screams or other unclean vocals. i am glad that we have come to somewhat of an agreement, but i feel that my question remains unanswered: if screamo is not post-hardcore (or any of the other genres you mentioned), then what is it? a few bands or a more professional term would be satisfactory.

@imthatoneguy which is exactly my point, EXEPT that i would define the term "screamo" as one referring exclusively to...

well okay, screamo has zero singing, which is what makes this post so wrong. Post-hardcore on the other hand does have melodic singing. Screamo is more closely related to hardcore, which has no singing but deep screaming vocals.
Examples...Funeral Diner, Pg 99, Love like...electrocution
I really dont like screamo so you if you listen and think they suck, I'm sorry. I chose bands I saw repeated on multiple screamo threads.

the screaming parts are the best!

@Layne_Staley_Lives copy cat :P jk

haha i totally didnt read any of the other comments but thats really funny!!

I can appreciate screaming, but for some reason a lot of screamo singers have amazing voices when they're not screaming as well.
