I think it's called "lone wolf" syndrome or something where nobody, including animals and plants, want to be left out. So when they do something bad, the others tend to leave them out as punishment and it's very effective.

If this is true, then why do we make fun of people who "want attention"? If we understand that a desire to belong is inherent in all human beings, then why do we say that someone who cuts themselves "just wants attention" and brush it off like there's nothing wrong with them?
