+623 You hate how most of today's popular songs are about meeting someone in a club, getting wasted, or "young love" and not something that's even meaningful. And then a lot of kids complain about their parents not liking their music. Gee, little 10 year old, I can't possibly imagine why your parents wouldn't want you listening to that. amirite?

so, back in the 70s/80s most of the music was about sex and drugs?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not really.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha your kidding

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, I'm not. 'Cause not MOST of the music was. The popular stuff like ACDC and Guns N' Roses and Motley Cru were, but a lot of artists weren't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is 3 bands. There were as much sex and drugs and party back then as there is today. It just seems different because mainstream has changed genres

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but it's influencing kids younger and younger nowadays to be sexually active. Sure they weren't innocent back then either but it couldn't have possibly been as bad as it seems to be now. Unless it's just where I'm from.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nah it isn't where your from and yeah I agree that it's reaching younger audiences

I actually like most 90s rock. Well, not all rock. I like Nena, Gary Numan, The Cure (I LOVE The Cure), The Cranberries, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains. =/ I'm eleven.

Sweetie, you are way too young to be on here

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah you are way to young to be on here. you are the same age as my sister and with some of the things that get posted on here i wouldn't want her on here. also with being young most people will either yell at you for being on here or call you a troll. so i think you should be aware of the fact that a majority of people on here are a lot older then you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You guys don't even know this kid. Maybe they are just mature for their age? o.O

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's cool. I mean, I'm not a real fan of those bands, but I do like their songs whenever I happen upon them... I remember the music I listened to when I was your age. What the hell was I thinking? Haha.

Even back in the 60s-90s the songs talked about sex and drugs. But you know what? Those people had TALENT! They used their skills and it was tasteful. Who cares if it was about drugs? It was AMAZING music. Breathtaking lyrics, unbelievable music, the whole thing. Today, the music sucks. Artists today really don't have the skill and talent that musicians had back then. Plus, "ohh yeah lets get high and fuck in da club damn lemme smack that" really cannot compare to the artistic levels that some bands had. I would much rather listen to Kurt Cobain and The Doors belt out lyrics about drugs than any rapper today. At least they had talent and the lyrics are phenomenal and intriguing.

Actually, I can't listen to anything that doesn't really have a meaning. People wonder why my music tastes are limited to only a few bands, but if it has no meaning to me, I just can't listen to it. :) BTW, none of you probably care, but I like The Fray, OneRepublic, Coldplay, Relient K, certain songs by Jack's Mannequin, and various other stuff. Why did I just say that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. Coldplay DEFINITELY has talent. People shouldn't judge them just based off Clocks and Viva la Vida. I really like the albums Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head.

I loved 80s hair metal and hard rock when I was about ten, a lot of which was about bad things...but oh well. The thing is, most Guns N’ Roses stuff is about drugs, sex, and getting plastered, but it was all in separate songs. They combine it all into one super bad influence these days.

'baby baby baby ooh' a perfect example of wh mainstream music is now going downhill..for all the reasons mentioned above.
