First there's Windows, the eldest, most experienced child that nearly everyone likes. Then there's Mac, the cool, younger child that may come to overshadow the eldest one day. And finally there is Linux, the awkward middle child that few like and know. amirite?

The voters have decided that Tater is right! Vote on the post to say if you agree or disagree.

You don't post your opinion about Mac vs Windows on a website full of nerds like me unless you want an argument.

but linus is doing great in the smart phone OS with android and meabo being based on it. :)

For Linux: I'd like to point out that if you say "few like and know" then the reason it's not liked by many is because it's not known by many.

i have @527664 (chris9): yeah Linex is great, better than Mac by far. Ubuntu 9.0 is like windows but only faster and with out viruses, it's the best of mac and windows.

I had a Linux laptop, the internet stopped working on it so we installed Windows 7 on it and gave it to my aunt. The internet worked again.
Just to be clear: The laptop was a netbook, it originally had Windows on it but my mom installed Linux instead and used it for a while, gave it to me, and now it belongs to my aunt. Currently I'm using a Macbook while my mom has a Macbook Pro.

the biggest problem with Ubuntu is that it doesn't work with all computers, the computer i'm using right now for instance is not compatible with Ubuntu so i'm using windows xp, but my laptops which are old use Ubuntu before that i used windows but when i switched the computers literally doubled in speed

I know that you're replying to an Ubuntu comment, but Linux really does tend to have good compatibility with most hardware, even if you need to take a couple extra steps to install some additional software (for Linux, so by extension, Ubuntu).

In any case what's nice about Linux is the huge community of people who are willing to help you if you have problems with something like this, and in most cases someone has probably already devised a solution to your problem (say, your hardware incompatibility). Even if it Windows may have greater out-of-the-box hardware compatibility (which I don't believe is true), ultimately you'll find greater support for hardware from Linux.

i tried ubutu 10.04. it took me like an hour to get flash to work so i just said f it and reinstalled windows. it needs more support from the big companies like that to make more people want to use it.

I'm surprised you had that much trouble.. usually that just entails installing a package using your package manager (so, aptitude)?

I agree that support of larger software companies would be beneficial, but the only main sectors I can see this is needed are professional creativity software (ie Adobe CS) and games. There's Linux-available software in both of these categories, but not enough or high functionality enough software to suit creative professionals and gamers (yet). So for those people I recommend dual-booting between Linux and OS X/Windows.

Dell is not an operating system, it's just a brand of computer.

I just called it how I saw it.

The essential fail of this post is that Apple has been around longer than Miscrosoft... sorry.

And of course Macs would have more than like, 10% market share, if they weren't so ridiculously overpriced... but they are, because like I always say: Steve Jobs is a tool.

Ha well sorry. I kinda meant when apple we know today when it started getting more popular (when jobs came back). Although I coulda sworn microsoft came first.

that nearly everyone likes? i beg to differ. win7 is the only os they've released lately that wasnt totally crappy/insecure/buggy/slow.

Meaning it is the most popular out there right now. It basically dominates the market. Mac's are growing in popularity however, explaining the second sentence.

You must be REALLY against windows judging by your posts.

Don't worry, I'm running on a Macbook Pro.

im not actually like anti windows or something like that. im actually using win7 right now. ive used windows since windows 95. win7 has been the only one that i would say is comparable to osx. atleast in terms of usability i mean. my only computer is actually a tri boot hackintosh. i have leopard, win7, and backtrack4.

Nicee! Win 7's alright. I just like my OSX too much, so I'm somewhat biased. It's too bad Mac's are expensive, they could totally sweep the computer market... at least for regular users. But I guess it's kind've a good thing not everyone has them.
Less mac targeting viruses :)

yes i think the price tag is the only reason more people dont buy them. i would use osx full time except i cant get the sound to work. thats a problem because i am constantly listening to music. im really excited because my parents told me they would get me a macbook pro if i get straight A's from next Tuesday when school starts till Christmas.

@keyword nearly, dumbass

ive never met a person who said they liked windows over osx. thats why i said that dumbass.
