Casual racism and casual homophobia has become a normality to the american youth, amirite?

Causal? Does that mean that kids become racist/homophobic because of their parents/surroundings, or something else?

Casual. As in, it's become so normal to American youth that you'll often hear them making jokes/remarks about race, religion, sexuality, gender, etc. in passing during a coversation and no one will react. It's become such a normal and accepted thing to do, and most don't even realize the ignorance of what they say- they've never questioned it because it's become the status quo to do such things. I do think, however, that it goes beyond Americans- I have friends from the UK and Australia and it's the same thing wih them and their peers.

Ah, thanks. Yea, in a way, racism and homophobia are causal. People throw around racist jokes and gay slurs very casually. But at the same time, our generation is getting increasingly PC and is generally very harsh towards genuine hate on other groups of people. I think a lot of the causal stuff is thrown around so loosely because people aren't actually racist/homophobic, and neither are their friends, so the terms become more humorous or meaningless than hateful

Very well said! While I do think that it can be damaging at times, I agree.

Are you saying that this is a problem?

In my opinion there has to be a substance behind it. If you lack any true feelings of superiority or hatred over another race or sexuality then I don't think it can be called racism or homophobia.

There's a major difference between jokes and actual racism and homophobia
