+450 It's rather unfortunate that no matter what, we as humans MUST consume other organisms for food, even if we're vegan. So we can't escape eating other living things, seeing as plants are still living. Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Circle of life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fruitarians only eat plants/fruits/veg that have died naturally... (eg, fallen off tree)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they're gay, MEAT FTW

by Anonymous 13 years ago

:D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Plants don't feel pain.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dead things don't feel pain either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats not usually why people go vegeterian.. Its becauseof the way they kill them. Its uncivilized.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's also uncivilized how people stab lettuce leaves with a fork.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nice. Someone should make a shot-for-shot spoof remake of that video that PITA has, and put vegetables in the place of animals.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its peta not pita. And those animals suffer in ways you cant even imagine. Vegetables dont go through that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry, I get them confused with the type of bread all the time. In my opinion the bread does more good than the organization. Vegetables can't scream, so how do you know they don't feel pain??

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh lol okay. I think the organization does a lot of good. I'll admit, im only a part of their street team. because of where i live I cant really get involved in a whole lot, other than petitioning and such. They dont have the same nerve endings and pain receptors that animals do. Im not saying its impossible that they feel pain, but all that vegetables go through is a quick and simple pluck from the ground. Have you seen what the animals at factory farms go through?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I've seen it, and it's not easy to watch. But the men doing it have to earn a living for their families and maybe the slaughterhouse was the only place hiring. To my knowledge, the only painless ways to die are in your sleep or with chemicals. And since we can't wait for the animals to die of old age and injecting toxic chemicals into the meat would be bad for those who consume it, the only other option is to slit their throats. And after watching the PETA video about slaughtering cows, I've concluded that the animals aren't in as much pain as they are in panic. I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals, but i love meat. And if the only way to keep my meat safe and tender is to put the animal down by slitting it's throat, then i'm good with that. Because it's better than having to hunt my meat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I realize they have to earn a living, but does that mean they cant at least render the animal unconscience before slitting their throat? at least that way the animal wouldnt panic and wouldnt feel the pain. And what about the shitty conditions they are forced to live out their short lives in? Surely those places can afford to hire a few people to muck out the feces and build bigger pens. I used to love meat, until i watched those videos. The first time i tried to eat meat after that it was digusting. I havent had meat since July, and havent even came close to wanting it. It was extremely easy for me, but i care more about animals than i do just about any human ive ever met, or havent met for that matter. Animals are genuine and loving, if you treat them right. Humans are no where near being like that, they judge and stereotype and hate. Animals deserve better treatment, despite what some people think , they do have feelings, they experience emotion and feel pain.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are totally entitled to do whatever you want, I have no problem with someone not eating meat. But what pisses me off about PETA is that they dump more money into advertising than they do for the cause they say they support. They're a bunch of hypocritical attention junkies that love telling people how to live. I agree that animals have emotions, but i don't believe they have feelings like people do. The reason for my belief is that I grew up around cattle farms...and if you've ever watched how a cow behaves you'd see that they look brain dead half the time. Cows are not loving in any form of the word. Yes, they care for their young...sometimes (I've seen mothers abandon their young and even try to kill them right after they're born) But they care nothing for other animals or people. Domestic animals, on the other hand, do care for other beings (which is why i love dogs so much). The animals that are genuine and loving are the animals we DON't eat, in my opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I dont think any company should pour a ton of money into advertising, but to be honest peta works a lot off of volunteers who do a lot of advertising for them. I live in cow country, not on a farm myself, but my boyfriends dad raises cows and i used to live on a farm. The 2 cows that were on the farm where i worked were the sweetest, most loving animals. They came over to play, got jealous when the other was getting attention, they even showed affection. most farm animals, cows included, are incredibly intelligent creatures. Pigs are actually smarter than small children and most dog breeds. I think any animal can care for humans, just watch the Christian the lion documentry and you can see the animal doesnt have to be domestic to be loving.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well then those are the only two cows I've ever heard of that showed emotion of any kind towards people. Pigs may be smarter than a small child but they don't get any smarter...children eventually do. I believe animals deserve my respect, that's why i always show gratitude for the meat i have to eat. But if people didn't eat meat then there would be overpopulation and an increase in predatory animals. It's a fact that when the population of herbivores goes up, so does the predators otherwise the animals die of starvation because they consume all of the vegetation around them. That being said, it would make camping and outdoor activities more dangerous for children. Whenever i'm involved with animals I always try to show respect towards it, but who am I to tell another person what to do?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ive seen plenty of farm animals show affection, maybe with the exception of chickens which i havent really been around much. They always just seem to do their own thing, I want to get some though so I can collect my own eggs so maybe I'll be able to find out. True, but you can train and work with any animal to make them smarter just like dogs; pigs, rats, birds, apes. I wouldnt have any issue with it if everyone showed the kind of respect that you do. Animals deserve it. They also deserve to live what little of their life that they get in a happy way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Their capacity to learn has limits tho. You can't teach an animal how to solve the sum of the coefficients of ( [3x - 3x^2 +1]^744 ) x ( [- 3x + 3x^2 +1]^745 ). It's just not possible

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well hell, i dont even want to solves that. I probably could but why would i? Capicity to learn doesnt dictate intelligence though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha yeah that's true. But The fact still remains...you shouldn't put an animal in any position of power

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, no Im not saying that. I just think we should treat them with the same respect and dignity that we want people to treat us with.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That would be a good way to live

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would be if everyone treated animals and humans the way they want people to treat themselves, but you dont want to get me started on whats wrong with the human race haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's always dirt, lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

an thats because we're heterotrophs and cannot make our food like autotrophs (i.e. plants, some bacteria) through chemo- or photosynthesis

by Anonymous 13 years ago

vegetarians annoy me. let me rephrase that. crazy vegetarians annoy me, like the ones who work for peta and pelt people who wear fur coats and shit. its the circle of life. its not like we're eating panda bears.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But wearing dog fur is okay? I'm a vegetarian and I would love to work for peta when i graduate. they're working to help end the suffering of animals, whats wrong with that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

please, dont grow up to work for PETA. http://petakillsanimals.com theyre not a good group. if you really want to help, donate your money to a good no kill shelter or rescue program. all peta does is take animals from shelters promising theyll find homes for them, and then they euthanize them and throw them away. no in my opinion wearing dog fur is not ok, becasue dogs give us nothing, so ther is no reason to kill them in our culture, and thats why its unethical. in places where they eat dogs like korea, china, the phillipines, yeah its ethical to them, becasue theyre getting food from the dog. that doesnt mean we should go over there and stop them. its not hurting us. killing a cow isnt unethical in our culture, its the circle of life. we get meat, and milk from the cow. when the cow is done we can use its by products to make leather and such. its the circle of life. you dont call it unethical when an eagle eats a snake.its the circle of life.maybe im just an asshole

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wouldnt work for them as like a career, i mean through college. Im going to vet school so i can have a more personal, hands on way to help animals. Once i get through college and save enough money, i plan to start my won rescue program for animals that organizations like peta and mfa rescue. I dont believe its okay for them to be locked up in research labs and shelters and to be treated the way they are. I also want to help end the torture on factory farming, which i why i became a vegetarian. So if i could work with an orgnaization like peta, who can find and stop these labs/shelters then i would be able to take them in. I dont belive they kill them, theyre are actually alot of people who work for peta that end up taking the dogs and such home with them. The dogs arent killed here, but in other countries they take strays off the street or even dogs that are peoples pets and steal them. They market the fur as another animal and ship them to the us where..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

people unknowingly buy and wear dog fur. These places dont generally eat the meat either. I know its the circle of life, and i dont call it unethical for an eagle to eat a snake or rodent. People eating the cow isnt what i have an issue with, i know alot of people wouldnt be able to give up meat. It was easy for me, but i know it wouldnt be for everyone. What I find unethical is the way those cows, pigs, and chickens are treated throughout the duration of their lives. They're kept in small pens that are full of feces. They're killed in the most inhumane ways, all because it is the cheapest for the factury to do so. Its just wrong that people think those animals dont have feelings.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

now theres something we can agree on. i do think that its unethical the way they trea the animals when they are living. such as veal, not a big fan becasue its baby cows just born not allowed to see sunlight and basically immediately killed. thats pretty mean. also believe what you want but the documents on that page are actual documents from PETA and it shows how many animals theyve euthanized and how many the found homes for. if i recall they killed about 500ish dogs last year and found homes for 8. theres something brutally wrong with that. they shouldnt be euthanizing any animals unless its for mercy, and i highly doubt 500 or so deserved a mercy killing also thats pretty bad about the dog thing if what your saying is true. its pretty sick what money will do to some people. and right what you said is unethical, about the stealing the dogs also im glad you want to start your own group to help rescue animals. thats really abitious and really great.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

just checked the site. actually they found homes for 8 animals out of 2,301.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I had no idea it was so bad, when i started doing research on becoming vegetarian, i was just curious because i wanted to do more to help. I had no idea that the animals were treated the way they were. Yeah, the veal farms really got me, I mean they keep the mother cows pregnant just to suck milk from them and then take their children away almost immediately. Its wrong. I realize that its rare that all animals will be able to find new homes and it really makes me sad to think that that many are being put down, but at least they were taken out of a life of suffering. Some of them are bad enough off that they would need to be put down, but i dont see why an organization as big as peta isnt able to create some huge ranch to shelter them. They should put more effort towards that. I know i read about the dog fur trade, and it made me sick. Like how can someone steal someones pet just for money. I really hope im able to start my own rescue project. Im going for a...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

veterinary degree for exotics that way i can take in all types of animals, including the ones mistreated for circus use and such.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eggs aren't alive, are they?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, eggs that arent fertalized arent. Eggs are technically chicken periods.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So we don't have to eat other organisms.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well if you had an all egg diet then yes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

POST DIS-PROVEN!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol that would be such a disappointing diet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

fruitatarians are hyprocrits. to get to the apple that fell off the tree they have to walk across the grass which is killing it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I grow my fruit plants in concrete
