It should be legal to avenge the murder of a loved one, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
That would probably solve the population crisis.
by Anonymous13 years ago
...Wait a second, I just realised that if this were the case, a LOT of people would end up dead...
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm about to sound real confusing but this is my thinking behind this:
If I killed somebody, their (for example) brother would want to kill me, since it's legal to. But he knows if he kills me, one of my loved ones will kill him. That might put him off from killing me. Because if we disregarded my post, he would only be faced with a long jail sentence if he killed me. That might not be enough to put him off from it. This is all assuming I wasn't caught and arrested for killing the first guy in the first place.
:)

I still say no.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I want to explain myself.
Murders are just murders. And the insane kind ecspeically don't care. It's breaking the law anyway, and you never know if the family wants revenage in the first place, so why care just because it was made legal?
by Anonymous13 years ago
And anyway, there is the death sentence, which will be taken out if it's that bad.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Taking a life isn't as easy as you're making it sound. The majority of families wouldn't take any revenge at all, meaning that the majority of murders would go unpunished.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I both agree and disagree. It'd have to be regulated. Like 1st degree murder only or something like that, but it'd also save money from keeping people alive in prison for the rest of their lives. I more agree than disagree I guess
by Anonymous13 years ago
An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind remember?
by Anonymous13 years ago
That just makes you a murderer, like the person you're trying to get revenge on.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's an extreme version of "He hit me, I hit him back".
by Anonymous13 years ago
Talk about chaos.. I understand the motivation, I mean I'd want to avenge the murder, but if we allow "revenge" to be legal, you know that'd end up badly.
Revenge is emotional, law should be logical
by Anonymous13 years ago
an eye for an eye makes the world go blind.

It's not your right to take someone's life. You didn't give it to them to take it away. Even if said murderer got away from the law, you should trust that they will be punished eventually. If you're an atheist, then let's just say that karma will get them back for what they did. And human beings can be wrong a lot. What if you didn't know the whole story? What if all you saw was your loved one's dead body and the killer? You most likely don't know why the murderer did that. You might even have the wrong person. In my opinion, killing a person for revenge isn't worth the risk of killing the wrong person.
by Anonymous13 years ago
This would just lead to a never ending cycle. If I kill your mom then you kill me then my brother kills you then your sister kills my brother then my mom kills your sister then your dad kills my mom so nothing would ever be resolved. The legal system isn't perfect by any means but it's there for a reason.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Depending on the severity of the crime and whether his state believes in the Death Penalty, the murderer dies either way. I don't see why people are acting as if this is so unheard of.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It should be illegal to make idiotic statements.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think this is a great idea.

"He deserves death."
"Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement." - Gandalf, Lord of the rings.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Only if it's your father.
by Anonymous13 years ago
If the "justice" system would actually follow through with the death penalty instead of letting the scumbags live, this wouldn't even be an issue.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I was going to say isnt the death penalty the same thing, but you got there first.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Haha yeah, but the problem is the fact that they would rather let these criminals stay on death row for decades instead of just putting them out of our misery. That's taxpayer money at work for you.
by Anonymous13 years ago
it actually cost more to kill a person than to keep them in prison for the rest of their life, just saying :)
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't see how that's possible. Dead people don't need food and housing facilities.
by Anonymous13 years ago
because capital punishment is super expensive. Just look at the research on it, it's true. I thought it would be cheaper to kill them, but it's not
by Anonymous13 years ago
If it was, it would set off a never ending chain of murder, and everyone will be dead.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Syncrobabe : your saying an atheist should turn to karma? Last i heard thats part of a religion o.O
by Anonymous13 years ago
Obviously the law would be a little more complicated to prevent everyone from killing each other. But I agree that if someone kills a person they too should be killed. What kind of punishment is jail for someone who took another human being's life? Oh no, they get to eat their meals, get time outside, and get beds but they have to live in a bad neighborhood. How horrible. This is why I like the eye for an eye rule. If I punched someone they would naturally punch me back. Why should murderers get nicer treatment than their more innocent victim?
by Anonymous13 years ago
^^^^^^^This.
by Anonymous13 years ago
If somebody killed my dogs I would kill them.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Does this theory work out for gangs? No, everyone just ends up dead. I don't know about you, but if you kill someone, that makes you a murderer, which (by your theory) means someone can kill you, and it doesn't ever end.
I don't want to be a part of that kind of system.
