+383 Children should be allowed to choose their own beliefs based on how they interact with the world around them. Most children grow up hearing what their parents tell them to believe, so that is how they end up. We should all be able to make our own decisions, no matter how old we are or where we come from, amirite?

I somewhat disagree. I would never be a Christian if i wasint born into the family that I have. I now accept the faith as my own, but my family had a huge influence. when I have kids I will also do my best to teach them what I think is right, but when they grow up, they will have to decide for themselfs.

Yes, and I agree that a family should be allowed to show you what they believe, but they shouldn't assume that you will believe that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. I'm an atheist and I don't know how to tell my Catholic family. It's fucking lenten here and I'm not allowed to eat meat -.-

I must've missed the part where christianity has adequately distinguished itself from any other religion in the world

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I sort of agree with you in a different way. If I hadn't been so submerged in Christianity, I wouldn't have thought about it enough to decide that it is not the religion for me. Although, had I not been exposed to it at all, I would probably have came to the same conclusion.

i agree that they shouldn't be forced or indoctrination into anything. But if a parent believes that their religion is true and fact, is it wrong to just try to inform their kids. Some just believe that they are telling their kids the necessary facts to make informed decisions and stay outa hell.

I think that Adults that treat religion as a really dominant issue in the house is only because that's what they percieve as truth and thus want to help save their children. Because overall, religion just teaches people how to be good people. But when religion forcibly restrains them from something (like eating pork) or really oppresses them, then the children can have a say in it. ...idk I think I just contradicted myself.

I agree with what you say, but saying don't eat pork isn't only a religious thing. If you look at it from a scientific point of view, pigs are the most filthy animals that everyone is used to eating and actually do more harm to your body than good. Most of the meat is fat, because they just stand there and do nothing all day, unlike other animals who happen to move around and actually gain muscle into their body systemaculous.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do explain how pigs are filthier and have more fat than any other animal that is bred to be human food.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think it has to do with the fact that they eat anything... and they just stand there, not doing anything. I'm not sure. True story bro

I can't tell if you're trolling or just really ignorant of the situation those animals are in. They aren't allowed to roam free in beautiful pastures. They don't eat whatever they want. They're caged in small areas with barely enough room to stand and they're fed some sort of corn mush crap. All animals being prepared for consumption are treated like this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah you're right. It's partly trolling, because I do know how they are raised in the U.S. but most of the people in outside countries that forbid pigs from being eaten don't raise their farm animals the same way Americans do. From my travels and what I've seen, they grow on actual farms, where they actually have room to roam around in. And I can tell you from experience, pigs are naturally lazy and gluttonous . It's a lot like eating shrimp, (all they do is clean the ocean) and even though you might not eat all the crap, there is some still left in the shrimp, when you're munching on 'em.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because something is unhealthy isn't really a valid reason to prohibit its consumption... It would have to be a personal choice to not eat them because you don't want that crap in your system.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's just like prohibiting cigarettes, it's for your own good.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's definitely a slippery slope. If parents aren't allowed to tell their kids what is right and wrong than kids are gonna be really selfish and without a moral compass. People aren't born good

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No... children aren't mature enough to decide how to react something using their little experience... just because they might experience one thing constantly during one phase of their lifetime, doesn't mean that thing is going to appear outside of that time period. It takes the wisdom of elders to teach that kid, what is really happening, instead of what the kid thinks is happening.

The post seems to be worded a tad misleadingly. I don't think the OP is saying that parents shouldn't teach their kids morals, and i'm not about to assume he/she would say something to that level of ridiculousness.Rather, I think what they are talking about is pertaining more to the belief of a god/or gods and religion. Which I agree with. If it's the ladder, then I would have to strongly disagree :/

No see that's what teenage years are for, to explore your own ideals and philosophies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

meh... Where's the fun in that? What's the point in having kids if you can't live vicariously through them?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

First they should hear all the choices they have before they make their own.
