Why? Xbox live is a more secure network than PS3 simply because it has to be paid for. Live doesn't require credit cards to purchase anything, as far as I know PSN does, which is probably the biggest reason PSN got hacked and Live didn't.
I'm not really sure how much 'better' one inline service can be than the other, it's just going online to play games.
I'm not obsessed with my Playstation, so having the PSN down for awhile wasn't really a big deal for me. Also, the Playstation costs $100 more for the console itself than the Xbox does, so I think it would be a little much for them to ask for more money on top of that.
At the end of the day, all I need is basic service, just let me get online with my friends and play Call of Duty or whatever, and I'm fine. So I can do that for free without having to pay $50 a year
I used to play Xbox almost exclusively, but I also have a PS3 and a good PC. I now Play PC mostly and it is much better than paying for Xbox live. I rarely use my Xbox anymore. The way I see it I could either pay for live or I can buy a new realesed game, and if I'm buying on Steam I could have money to spare.
If Xbox live was free, we'd have to endure twice as many assholes. Assholes who usally buy PS3s...

PSN doesn't require credit cards. You can buy 20 dollar PSN cards and 50 dollar PSN cards.
You sure showed him what for!
I stand corrected
I assume you mean the Gold level of service. Technically it is free, you just don't get complete functionality.
It's stupid to pay for something in one place when you can get it somewhere else for free.
Which is why I have a Playstation 3.

But you can't play Halo or Gears of War
I honestly don't care about either of those games. I play 3 games, 3 games only: Call of Duty, Madden, and MLB The Show.
Well then in that case I guess it makes more sense. I play a shit ton of more games, both online and offline.
