I think the statue of liberty used to be copper colored, but it reacted with the air over time making it green.

To all of you who don't get it: It's similar to someone giving you a fake necklace. "You know that "gold" necklace you gave me? It turned my neck green/changed colors, but I'll keep it anyways." It's not that hard to understand.
