+248 If you rephrase the character "Gaston" from beauty and the beast he actutally sounds like a good guy. Even though everyone in town thinks she's strange, he still wants to marry her, amirite?

only because he thinks that she's hot. "here in town there's only she, who is beautiful as me, so i'm making plans to woo and marry belle"

Exactly. He wanted her because she was the hottest, and expected her to turn into some subservient woman to service him and his stinky feet. In no way is Gaston a good guy.

Yep he's great, besides the fact that he's a superficial, self-absorbed misogynist who's only interested in Belle's looks and and thinks she'll obey his every command. Otherwise he's a total catch.

...Even if he did want to marry Belle, excluding the hotness factor in there, despite the fact everyone though she was so strange, he mocks her father openly (and her, by the way) for being strange. Not to mention that in every other scene he appears in, he's being an ass to someone.

I agree w/ all the above comments. Plus the part when says something like "Women shouldn't read books, it gives them ideas." He disgusts me. But he's a good villain and he makes the movie awesome.

Because of course characters are made up of phrases.

Rephrase? I... don't understand?

And then when he finds out she's in love with another man he decides to incite a riot and tries to kill him....only a good guy if your definition of "ideal" is Edward Cullen.

Yeah, Gaston just wants to marry Belle because he's compensating for being gay.
