+203 No Marauder-era fanfiction is complete without a scene where James and/or Sirius basically inhale their food and are berated by Lily and/or OC(s) amirite?

What sane person would read fanfiction?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What does sanity have to do with reading fanfiction? And how is that grounds to disagree with a post?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why so technical?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Whoever said I'm sane?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry that I make such hasty assumptions. ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love this.

Fanfiction is kind of stupid. If the author choses to end the series, then that's that. There's no need for a bunch of (often) mediocre writers to feed of the corpse of that authors story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You have to admit one in every thousand or so actually make sense

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I haven't read 1000, but I'll take your word for it. I know that there are probably some great ones out there, but I just don't like it when people can't accept the fact that a series is over so they resort to fanfic or a movie about it that they know won't even be close to as good as the book.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can't say I've read that many either, just saying that every once in a few hundred millenia, a semi-good fanction author pops up. And yeah, that crap is pretty annoying, especially since it's commonly accompanied by tons of adoring super-fans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've seen some people who read fanfiction and get addicted to it like WoW or crack. It's really sad. Maybe that's made me prejudiced against it...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I tried reading it once. My inner Grammer Nazi nearly exploded.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think that's it, exactly. A lot of people write fanfiction to work on their writing skills. It lets you focus more on the technical part of writing instead of getting side-tracked coming up with a completely original plot and characters.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've never thought of that. It's a good point.

Try reading: Survivors Guilt: Moony's Tale. Unless of course you are against homosexuality.

I don't know why people bash fanfiction. I admit, I've encountered horrifying fanfiction before, but there are A LOT of amazing authors who truly understand the characters and write great stories. I was first horrified by the idea of fanfiction (read something that isn't written by the author - no way, they'll ruin it!), but I'm glad I did. You just have to dig through the dirt to find the jems. Oh, and yeah, I agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*Gems. And you'd be digging through enough dirt to remake Mt. Everest.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So? Some people, including me, think it's worth it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No offense, but I'd rather stick with published authors that I know will have good grammer, proper plot events, and are in general, good (except perhaps Stephanie Meyer).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Non taken. I used to be like you, I refused to read fanfiction on principle. I felt like I was cheating on the author or something. But then, I was sucked into the fanfiction world. There some really crappy things that I couldn't un-read. But, there were others that were just amazing, they made you wonder if the author has written them him/herself. Some stories that have 1000+ reviews are mind blowing. But hey, I'm not forcing or anything. Everyone has their cup of tea.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

some really crappy things like... the one where the Sorting Hat 'conditions' people's hair? (have you read that? if not - DON'T)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WHAT? No, I didn't read that! My god, somebody actually wrote that?! Did you read the one about the Hogwarts, er, orgy? The one with the sucking dementors? I advice you not to. My worst Marauder-era fanfiction stories are the ones that make them all really stupid (especially Sirius - James and him were the top of their class! ) for humor.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, I read one with an orgy at Hogwarts, but I don't think it was the same one, since there was no mention of dementors. and yeah, that pisses me off too. especially if they make Lily all bubbly and girly and stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, some so-called 'fans' are a disgrace to the Harry Potter fandom. I'll be checking yours!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by the way, may I advertise mine? hehe http://fanfiction.net/s/6313241/1/

You simply have to know where to look. When they say they "suck at summaries" you know they aren't creative enough to even fill 180 characters: pass. When they proclaim it sucks: read it. Often they are the best. Find well published, liked authors (Phoenix_Fanatic comes to mind) Set the filters to what you want. Often long stories are rambly, but even the awful writers post one-shots. Look for 'canon' if you want the extensions of the book, or 'non-canon' if you want an original story. Know what to search. "Sirius and Remus" will give you five-ish pages of results, but RLSB will give you eighty, beautifully written pieces.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And while you're digging you find a loooot of porn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Heh, never said I didn't find it. ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Set filter to K-K+. No porn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No RLSB fanfic is complete without a scene in which James and Lily are brought together by some extensive plot to get Remus and Sirius together.

The best fan-fiction ever: The Shoebox Project.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is it Marauder Era? Or even Harry Potter? I'm going to search it anyway.

To all the people dissing fanfiction: Okay, so I admit. I read and write Fanfiction. And it makes me feel like the hugest nerd ever. But once you get past all the crap, you can find some really good, tear-jerking, funny, amazing stories. Also, it's great for people who want to work on their writing skills, because you don't have to deal with making well-written, complex characters. You have them all in front of you. :) So yeah. That's my opinion. And I just realized this got posted forever ago, so no ones probably even going to read this. :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What fandom do you write? And what pairing?
