Am I not allowed to be proud of my nation and what it stands for?

My old teacher use to say that. But seirously, Isn't shame the opposite of pride? I would never be ashamed of where I come from. I'm not one of those "OHHH YEAAHH I'm this and this! So that makes me better than you!" Hell to the no. But am I proud of where I come from? Yes, most definitely.

yes shame is the opposite of pride but just because you dont have pride doesnt mean you do have shame

There is a huge difference between shame and the absence of pride. In the example of nationality, there is no need for pride nor shame. Not one of us had any choice in the matter of our ethnicity or country of birth. It was all chance. Chance deserves no pride; chance deserves no shame.

Who really cares whether you accomplished anything or not? It's like, I'm proud of my dad and how he worked his way from nothing to something. Did I help him accomplish that? No, but I'm proud of him.

I don't mind people showing their pride for their nationality but it gets annoying when they show it all the time.

I can't be proud that my relatives managed to escape a genocide and start a new life?

I dunno, I'd be pretty damn proud of my nationality if I was from like Atlantis or something.
