+200 If the worlds population problem gets extremely bad, they should enact a population rule, 3 kids maximum per family. Of course not killing/taking away any children after the third, but paying a hefty fine for increasing the population too much. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Something like China? I have a better idea though, after the birth of the third child, the husband goes into his own room and gets his balls removed.... Even more effective?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That made me laugh :) I have a feeling that people think that 3 kids is not enough. It's not like I'm saying that they are "illegal" like in Among The Hidden. I'm just saying the population will one day get very high, and I feel it should be controlled without killing people.

Yeah I definitely agree, hopefully by that time we will be able to live in outer space or something, which would totally be kick ass!

made@601182 (KickAss): also made me think of china's one kid per family rule

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What happens if they have twins?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's an exeption I think. the "extra child" is required to have cost like 30 grand or so. (in us dollars) So I guess twins are like... a package lol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

First family I thought of was the Duggers for some reason.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Better idea: rather than punish everyone, sterilize the poor - they usually have massive amounts of kids and continue to have them even if they cannot take care of them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Good idea, kinda reminds me of the shadow children sequence.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ya same

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought that too!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Good idea in principle, but I think it's ridiculous to tell people how many kids they can and cannot have. The goverments already control so much of our lives that 'freedom' is a joke. Yes, most of it is necessary or else there would be chaos but you have to draw the line somewhere. And hey, if you can financially support 4 or more kids, who are they to deny you that right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You make a valid point. My family has 4 kids, and we're doing pretty well. In fact, it's not a huge problem because my sister and I don't even want kids. Other families are like that, too

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Didn't they do that in China? And look what else is happening in China, don't the government or whatever they are just control everything and people can't do anything? And things are so bad that in the Apple factories the workers had to sign contracts saying they wouldn't commit suicide! I don't want anywhere else getting like that, and I'm worried that could be the first step... O.O

read the shadow children series by margaret peterson haddix. starting with among the hidden.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

y That's a great series. And in those books it was 2 kids max which makes way more sense then this post. If three kids were allowed, the population would still grow because 3 kids - 2 parents = 1 addition.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've read it. That sparked this post. The population would still grow and the children would NOT be illegal, but the parents should have to pay a fine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

After that, they could take away color and music too!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And instead of actually having children, we can have women assigned a job to have our babies for us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Like the book 'The Giver' by Lois Lowry! Amazing story, btw :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's definitely irrelevant. I'm in human geography, and have read the giver also, which made me post this post. I don't think a 3 child rule, or even a 4 depending on what stage we are at is so bad. It's not like they are telling us to be uncreative.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree something should be done about the population boom. There's entirely too many people. 3 kids is enough. If those three kids have three kids it's nine kids. If those nine kids have three kids it's 27 kids. If those 27 kids have three kids it's 81. It's pretty manageable. But having ten kids who have ten kids and so on is bad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Duggers would have to pay a heavy ass fine

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Duggers are pathetic...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just to say it should really only be two kids, that way the population wouldn't increase but stay at a steady level.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Unless of course, when the parents are having their 3rd child, they have a multiple birth. In that case, I don't think they should be fined. But I totally agree with this post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Duggars would be screwed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In theory, it's a great idea. However, it seems as though you're giving the rich a right hove more children, seeing as how they can pay for it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Of course not killing/taking away any children after the third" What prevents parents who can't pay the fine from killing the extra kid? Or from killing girls, frequently considered useless, so they can have a son? "Just don't have sex" is not always as easy as it sounds, and it's fairly difficult to get access to contraceptives in most places. You also have to consider the reason why people are having so many kids. In the US we are reproducing at less than replacement rate (meaning less than 2 kids average per couple), same with most developed countries. Most population growth is coming from developing, agriculture-based countries, where with child mortality and the need for labor on family farms it's just not possible economically not to have lots of kids; a large family is more of an economic asset than an economic liability like it is in urban situations. I agree that the population growth we're experiencing is dangerous, but instituting laws is not the right way to stop it.

We were JUST going over this in Human Geography last week.... This post was written before I knew all that. But the not having sex part will be the route for people who don't want to pay the fine. All your post I just learned... I kinda wanna delete this post because it was written pretty poorly.
