+855 Romeo and Juliet's romance was better than 50% of America's marriages. At least they got to "till death do us part," amirite?

Divorce rates are much lower than people assume, and have consistently dropped since the 1970's in America. Only 20% of people who got married in the 1980s got divorced

Romeo and Juliet mostly likely lusted for each other. It doesn't make sense that they fell in love at first sight.

Not only that, but the ENTIRE PLAY was about the war between the families, not about the lovers. It was written to show what useless hatred could do to people. #Commonmisconceptions

I have fallen in love in the span of time that they did. @609288 (Anonymous): I don't know. I believe the family feud (lol) served as a dramatic backdrop for the love story, and a plot device that caused the conflict in their romance (the thing separating them). It is a tragedy, to be sure, and so it doesn't feel like a proper romance, because they just die instead of the Hollywood "happily ever after," but it's still a love story.
