I think it's because when we were younger, a year was a bigger portion of our life, like as a 5 year old, a year was 20% of my life. But as a 20 year old, it's only 5% and seems to go by faster because it's shorter.

If I remember correctly, your perception of time increases as you age, making things seem to go by faster. Something like that.
