+176 Music is better than paintings or drawings. Music is so powerful it can make people cry, but how many people have been that affected by a painting? amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's not the goal of a painting.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow. Ignorant comment. MANY people have been and are moved by paintings. If you have an OPINION of a painting, even if it is negative, you've been moved to a degree by it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well gracious, i was merely explaining my opinion that music is better than paintings, that does not mean that I'm ignorant. I haven't known people to be as moved my paintings as music. I'm not moved by them. I think some are good, but they don't move me like some music does.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Gracious, pay attention. I didn't say YOU were ignorant. I said your comment was. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, your comment did sound pretty ignorant.... Just saying. Also @611462 (Etherial): has a point, some people are moved by paintings more than music, just depends on the person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm a musician and I don't agree with this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is no 'best' art or art form that is 'better' than another form. Although I would say that things like the Sistine Chapel are better than that song 'Dynamite' by whoever, all real art is expression of some form of emotion and is unique to the artist. The same goes with all responses to art. This is just your response.

Clearly you have never seen any photographs of the Holocaust. How can you not be brought to tears at the sight of those people dying? I know you said paintings, but it's visual art all the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(...): The Holocaust is a bad example since I don't think pictures of this horror was intended to be an artform, and I think OP is refering to actual artforms, like music and painting.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're right, it wasn't intended to be an artform. However, I think that your breath can be taken away from many of the pictures in Nat Geo and even though they might be capturing something like a genocide, their photography IS an artform because of the technique put into taking the pictures. So my point still kinda stands, just with a different example.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As much as music can be moving, a painting can be equally as moving, and in most cases more. For example, If I hear a song about an unjust genocide, It will be sad, but If I SAW an depiction of one, I would be much more affected.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would never cry over a painting, but a song couldn't make me cry either so that isn't really an effective argument for me. The only kinds of artform that could make me cry would be literature or film.

This post has inspired me to make an absolutley heartbreaking picture, just to prove you wrong. I know it. Even though you may not have been brought to tears, every picture gives off some emotion. Or well, they should. The colours in art are the notes in music, and they can be manipulated to suit a mood that the viewer or listener can connect with. Basic stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

do it, please! i think it's just because i have no artistic talent that i can't appreciate art like some people do. I do have musical talent (to some extent) which is why i can appreciate it so much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is astoundingly ignorant. Picasso anyone? I adore music however most music aside from classical will not last as long as a beautiful painting, and I belive that says something

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Believe*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To me, music AND painting (visuals) together are beautiful and make me cry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

untrue! as much as i LOVELOVELOVE beautiful, moving music paintings can be just as cryworthy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

im moved by both, but that might just be cause im an artist and musician, so i appreciate both equally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't really compare music and paintings, they're both art forms and provoke emotions. You're obviously not very educated in music OR art, considering that ignorant statement. It all depends on what you're listening to/what you're looking at. I have been very moved by paintings before, as I have music. Think before you post. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would have voted Yes, If it said music makes you paint your own picture.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because you aren't educated in art doesn't mean that no one else is. Get a wider view of the world

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pretty sure millions of people throughout history have been moved to the point of tears by a form of visual art.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know whats better? Video Games, it combines both vision and hearing into a masterpiece! I should know, i have been playing them for 10 years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...well one time a guy threw a rock at the Mona Lisa. Does that count?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well maybe you just haven't seen the right paintings yet. :S

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry follow up but.. What the fuck?! People weren't being mean, they were just offering a contrasting opinion. Jeez..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, they were offering a contrasting opinion, in a "my opinion is fact" way, and calling me ignorant. You can offer a "contrasting opinion" in a more respectful way.
