+331 It's kinda weird that the French word for makeup is masculine, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because makeup is usually seen as typically female.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not when makeup was invited.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha invited. Did you mean invented?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha, invited. Yeah, I meant invented and I probably should have said discovered?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

isn't it maquillage? i've been taking it for 3 years, but then again, i'm really not the brightest at all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, UN maquillage :) @618909 (Noogieboogie): You mean invented? And I'm pretty sure it was, haven't women been painting their faces since, like, before Cleopatra?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but it's France. They haven't made sense since the last time they won a war.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In german skirt is masculine...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its kinda weird how the word for "Damn" in French is Zut!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's not masculine it is maquillage...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

For all you people that are saying that it's not masculine, that it's "maquillage," the OP means that it's considered a masculine word, not that it is literally "masculine."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THANK YOU. @634571 (GavinRaymond): what amp said: it's LE maquillage.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you knew anything about French, or some other languages, you would know that words aren't masculine or feminine based on what it means.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A shirt typically worn by men (une chemise) is feminine while a blouse, usually for women, is masculine (un chemisier). It isn't feminine or masculine based on who uses/wears it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Beard is feminine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, you know those French women...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same thing with "dress" in spanish. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I do find it weird since I have a tendency to assume that any French word with a double consonant in it is feminine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In France make up is considered masculine

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i've never noticed that. but then again, i never notice the gender of the words while i speak. for example, the "child-appropriate" form of the man part is feminine in another european language, but i've only noticed that now

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No way. In french make up is 'maquillage'. i know cuz i speak french fluently :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well if you speak it so fluently you'll know that it's LE maquillage, which I've said three times now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

t'aurais pu dire que le mot n'est pas un mot feminin pour eviter la confusion :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

je savais pas qu'il fallait metter le pronom en fait. La prochaine fois je ferai attention :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You... Your level of stupidity amazes me. Really, I mean it. Makeup = "du maquillage", dammit. And there is one sort of makeup called 'mascara', but that's all. Pff. Seriously, people ? (Oui, je suis française. Donc bon.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Aaah. Seriously. When the fuck will people realise that I KNOW it's maquillage, and was in fact referring to the fact it's LE maquillage? Way to read the comments, genius. I've only said like five times.
