For all you people that are saying that it's not masculine, that it's "maquillage," the OP means that it's considered a masculine word, not that it is literally "masculine."

If you knew anything about French, or some other languages, you would know that words aren't masculine or feminine based on what it means.

A shirt typically worn by men (une chemise) is feminine while a blouse, usually for women, is masculine (un chemisier). It isn't feminine or masculine based on who uses/wears it.

i've never noticed that. but then again, i never notice the gender of the words while i speak. for example, the "child-appropriate" form of the man part is feminine in another european language, but i've only noticed that now
