+278 It is really awkward when people break down into the "ugly cry" and makes sounds that are similar to a severely wounded animal. And all you can think is "OMG... this is really awkward! Should I like pat the person on the back and say there, there...?" amirite?

so is it less awkward when they do the "pretty cry?" either way they're sad...

I guess you haven't heard the saying before...It is just like some people start wailing crazily, and uncontrollably and you are just at a lost of what to do...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i got it...but isn't it still awkward if they're crying silently/prettily? honestly, i'd be unsure of what to do either way, really.

I don't think crying "prettily" exists... but yah i agree either way its hard to deal with. I dunno its just when someone is more reserved with their crying its different, but when someone is crying so hard they can't breath and their body is convulsing like they are in physical pain, it just gets to you...but that's just me...

I usually ask if they want a hug and then squeeze the crap out of them if they say yes.

Yes, because crying should always be a poised, elegant thing.

"ugly cry" is a figure of speech...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it's not. A figure of speech is when the meaning of the phrase diverges from the words' literal meanings. And even though the phrase "ugly cry" can be used to mean a complete crying breakdown, it is still a literal description. Although I admit I didn't know that extra meaning until I looked it up on Urban Dictionary.
