I failed an open book test. I decided I was too good for the book, so while everyone was copying answers from the book, I wrote my answers from my brain. I failed. 37%.

Defeat the purpose of taking open-book tests? You need to learn to phrase things better.

Defeat the purpose of calling it a 'test.' Perhaps you should just use your brain more...

If I had not understood the post, I would've said something like HUH WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? instead of "Learn to phrase things better, OP" as in, the phrasing of that post wasn't correct in terms of what he/she wanted to say.

Not at ALL. Open book tests are usually harder and, if you're lulled into thinking you don't need to study, you will be screwed over.

It depends on the content of the subject. Exams shouldn't test how well you've memorised stuff, they should test your understanding of it, which is where open book doesn't make it any easier.

And when you have a huge 300 page textbook, you still have to study and know where everything is, so it's not like you can just stroll in without studying and ace it.

It still doesn't make me love them any less :)

I was surprised at how many people got low grades on a recent open book test we took. I thought I did bad but really only missed two, while some people missed eight or twelve. The book is there might as well use it people.

Back in elementary school my form teacher was also my P.E., Science, Health and English teacher. He would take all of the health periods for Science/English. At the end of the year since we needed grades for health the school just gave us an open-book test and everyone got full marks. The test was pretty much common sense though, like what are the harmful effects of smoking etc etc.
