+555 Holidays / breaks are nonexistent when taking AP classes. Amirite?

or IB

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is IB and AP the same thing, or what?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're similar, but I think it's unanimous that IB is harder. The IB diploma program is the last 2 years of high school, but they prepare you much earlier in some schools. Imagine all your classes being AP, a lot more homework, a 4000 word essay, 150 hours of community service, and a ton of IB tests at the end of senior year that are much harder than AP.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That actually sounds really good. I wish they offered that at my school; we only have AP. ):

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally, I love the program but you should hear all the complaining that some IB kids do. All you have to do is youtube IB.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha. They're a lot of complainers, and some really cute parodies. It makes me wish I could've been in IB.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

true that! oh my gosh. i watched my sister go through full ib with that god awful extended essay, and historical investigation etc. i am almost full ib, except for the fact that i made the decision to drop IB Bio, so i am that and TOK, and CAS short of the IB diploma. *growl* but i think i will still save myself the mental breakdowns.....however in one block i have math english and history. aye aye aye!! lol, but yeah i do love it. its a challenge, but a good challenge. good luck!! :] colleeen

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. I just started the diploma program this year, and now have zero free time, breaks or not... And it doesn't help I spend three hours a day a crew practice.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha. well good luck with that. I would say it gets better but it doesn't. What I can say is that it's possible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So true. Weekends are the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Apparently, during my winter break this year, I have to read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My deepest apologies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I looked up how long it is... the copy I'll buy most likely has around 600 pages, which is really an okay length for me, but when it's something as confusing as Great Expectations... I think I'm going to cry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ughh so true!! Last year everyone was like "yayy it's spring break! No homework!" While for us it was dedicated to studying for the final -_____-

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually don't get a lot of homework in my AP class, but there's a lot of studying. We only have a few days to memorize a chapter, pick out what's relevant and important, and hope that you know everything that'll be on the test. But this is the first year they offered the AP course I'm taking, so it's sloppier than other, established classes. Remember, though- We can sleep when we're dead.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're not that hard if you know what you're doing....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its not that they're hard, but they are alot of work and it takes a long time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some classes do I guess. But I'm taking 4 this year and haven't done an obscene amount of work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I only have two this year, and both teachers give a rediculous amount of work. My history teacher absolutely will not let a day go by without us having at least 40 minutes of homework.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

40 minutes? My history teacher won't let a day go buy without at least 3 hours of hw. Not even exaggerating.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most days its a good hour and a half, plus homework for all my other classes including another AP class that also takes a good hour or so. Oh, and I never have time for it because I have swim practice every day for 3 and a half hours.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I take another AP class too, but it doesn't take anywhere near as much time as AP Euro. And I'm not doing any sports now, but basketball starts in a few weeks, and then after that it's track. Can't wait for six straight months with no sleep.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I totally know what you mean, but swim team is all year for me. I never get to sleep. Ever. Its a wonder I have time to be on this site.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah 40 minutes is not bad at all. i got about 2 hours for EACH AP class i took last year. i got home from school around 3, and did homework until i went to sleep at around 2 in the morning. it was awful.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Question: What would you do with your free time if you were an on-level student?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i would die of boredom

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You have no idea. AP European History takes up all of my time, even on this 5 day weekend. ugh.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

John P McKay?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i feel ya ): i have AP us history and my teacher thinks it's great to have us outline ten chapters over a long weekend.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nope, sorry

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well you're wasting your time then because McKay's version of European history pwns all!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It'll better prepare you for college. Promise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i took a bunch of AP classes last year, and i think it definitely prepared me. maybe a little too much, though. haha all of my college classes are WAY easier than anything i took last year.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My senior year, I took Calculus BC. I hated it. I had to do homework over Christmas break, over Thanksgiving break (which had my birthday in it), and over every weekend. I pulled a D my second semester. I seriously HATED senior year. Taking Calculus BC was seriously the best decision I ever made.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My junior year is so hard with AP Classes I have to develop an "excitement" for learning just because there's so much of it. How the hell do I get excited to learn? It's like saying to be thankful that there's a fly in my soup.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In high school we had block semesters so we started a new set of classes after winter break. Imagine taking an AP class in one semester instead of two. Only good thing was we didn't have anything to do over winter break.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm only a Sophomore and I'm in 2 AP classes! They're not all that hard, but they take so much time! It better be worth it for college

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm in IB and in9th grade but it's basically making us take 10th 11th 12th grade and a few college classes. It can get difficult but it's so worth it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, I remember pre-IB. Things were so peaceful back then.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And then you get to university and even nights when you actually sleep start to disappear
